There are many Bluetooth speakers on the market. Some are under $100, some are over priced at more than $600. Well a newcomer to the market is a Bluetooth veteran; Jabra. Your spouse or partner or significant other, may be YOUR soulmate, but Jabra has developed your musical “Solemate”.
This is not only the best Bluetooth speaker I have tested in recent memory, but perhaps the one that could push industry giants such as Bose, etc out of the way.
Unboxing was a snap (literally). I simply unsnapped the sides of the case and slid the top off. For arguments sake, I did turn it on, and it told me (yes, it spoke) that it had 75% of a charge left. Out of the box this was very refreshing. I plugged it in though for about an hour to bring it to 100%.
After that, it took less than 3 minutes to pair it with 4 devices;
· An iPhone 4
· A Samsung Galaxy 5 Player
· An Android tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich
· A Macbook Air running Mountain Lion
As a side note, it will also take a connection via a 3.5mm jack and/or USB. It was verified that those options worked, but testing after was solely via Bluetooth.
It was tested with varying genres including;
· Hard Rock; Crazy Nights by Kiss
· Rap; It’s Tricky by Run DMC
· Oldies; Run around Sue by Dion and the Belmonts
· Soft Rock; Desert Moon by Dennis DeYoung
· Comedy; I’m Starvin’ by John Pinette
There were no settings to change except for volume. It appeared to be self righting depending on what you were listening too. Guitar riffs were loud and clear. The drums of a rap song actually vibrated the speaker. Every word and note was perfect with oldies and soft rock. Finally, all words, cheers and laughter, was the best it could be with comedy.
Wait though, the SoleMate is not done yet. It was also tested as a gaming speaker with two sound intensive games; Top Gun 2 and Star Wars Falcon Gunner. I felt as if I was in the movies and waited for the THX hum theme to come over the speaker. It sounded like I was surrounded by F15 fighters or even the futuristic Tie-Fighters and the Millennium Falcon (depending on the game). The sound was nothing short of amazingly rich. Like a cheesy infomercial says, “But wait, there’s more”. This will turn your phone or other Bluetooth communication device (including laptop) into a speaker phone. It was tested with Skype as well as other communication tools including Face Time and Yahoo Messenger. Again, the clarity was superb.
Jabra never fails to deliver. There are always high expectations when testing one of their new releases. It is available at www.jabra.com, Best Buy and as always Amazon.
