Every once in a while comes that small film that warms your heart and puts a great, big smile on your face. “For a Good Time… Call” is that film.
“For a Good Time…Call” begins by introducing us to the ambitious Lauren (Lauren Miller) and the carefree, zany Katie (Ari Graynor). Lauren and Katie met at a college party and since then have been frenemies. Years later, Lauren loses her boyfriend and Katie is about to lose her fabulous Gramercy apartment. In order to make ends meet, Lauren ends up moving in with Katie and soon chaos ensues. Soon, Lauren learns that Katie has a secret of her own… Katie is a phone sex operator.
This film makes for a great night out film and the great thing about this film is that both genders will enjoy it. Men will like it for the raunchy humor and women will like it’s girl power message. Though it does have a bit of raunchy humor (after all, it is about a phone sex), it has a heart about it that is sometimes unique to these kinds of films.
Both of the actresses in this film lit up the screen. They had such unique personalities and both were a joy to watch. Graynor is the one to watch out for. She is always absolutely hilarious and overall a fun person to watch in no matter what film she is in. She always radiates on the screen, kind of like Rebel Wilson does in any film she is in. On a side note, you can catch Graynor on stage in New York City in “The Performers,” which starts this October.
Unfortunately, this film only came out in a limited theater release. If it does come to a theater near you, I would highly recommend it. I can guarantee that you will have a “good time.”
If you get offended easily, though, I would seriously stick to “The Masters.”
