WWE Monday Night Raw on Sept. 17 followed one of the most controversial PPV main events in a long time at Night of Champions. Here is a look at what happened on the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw.
The show opens with CM Punk’s music starting and Paul Heyman making his way to the ring. He calls out the referee from the Night of Champions main event and told him he made the right call. John Cena then came out and said he agreed but Punk never beat him. Then Alberto Del Rio came out and demanded a title rematch with Sheamus. Finally, AJ Lee came out and set up the tag team main event to see who gets the actual rematch down the line.
Next up, the WWE shows footage of Jerry Lawler returning home to Memphis, as he recovers from his heart attack last week. The announcers replacing him on this episode of Monday Night Raw is JBL and Jim Ross.
The first match pitted Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara against Epico and Primo Colon. Rey and Sin Caara won the match and then the Prime Time Players ran out and attacked them. The bad guys then cut a promo after the beat down.
In the next match, new Diva’s Champion Eve pinned Beth Phoenix in quick fashion. The next match was another squash, as Brodus Clay beat Heath Slater, despite Antonio Cesaro trying to interfere.
The next segment was for The Miz’s new talk show, MizTV. The guest was Booker T but The Miz wouldn’t let him answer any of the questions. Finally Booker T grabbed the mic from The Miz and called out Ryback, who destroyed Miz’s set.
Dolph Ziggler came out and complained because he had to fight “a joke” in Santino Marella. Ziggler won in convincing fashion. Following that match, Wade Barrett made his return from injury to beat his former Nexus partner Justin Gabriel.
The Tag Team Championship was on the line next as Kane and Daniel Bryan defended them against the former champions, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth. Kane pinned R-Truth and then the champions argued after the match about who the real champions were.
Randy Orton beat Tensai in the next match in a decent match and then Damien Sandow beat Zack Ryder in a match that Ryder dominated.
The main event pitted John Cena and Sheamus against CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. The match was a nice fight between the four top wrestlers and ended when John Cena pinned Punk, despite Punk’s foot clearly being on the ropes. The show ended with Punk following the referee out telling him how lousy he is at his job.
