Tonight in Atlanta, WWE will present the Hell in a Cell Pay Per View event(7 pm CST/ 8 pm EST) featuring an out-of-the-norm main event pitting the top heel in the company, WWE Champion CM Punk taking on the undefeated monster Ryback. The match became official two weeks ago as John Cena was removed from contention for the WWE title because he’s still recovering from arm surgery. Cena will be present on the show, and is scheduled to address a new storyline development with fomer RAW GM AJ Lee and himself on the HIAC pre-show which will stream live from youtube.com/wwe at 6:30pm CST/ 7:30pm EST.
Here is a full rundown of the announced matches for tonight’s WWE Pay Per View along with some nerdtastic predictions.
WWE Championship Hell in a Cell Match
CM Punk vs. Ryback
This match is hard-to-call. Punk is rideing high after establishing himself as the top villain in the company and carrying a brunt of RAW recently. You can not getting Punk to stop boasting about how long his WWE title run has been and continues to be. He has tied his current persona to the WWE Championship, but could that all come crashing down when he steps into the brutal Cell cage to face the Ryback. The beast of a wreslter formerly known to fans as Skip Sheffield from the Nexus has been pushed quickly and abruptly to the top of the card after being undefeated for months on both RAW and Smackdown. Though Ryback has been plugged into this match as a ‘replacement’ for mega-star John Cena, it does feel like he has a legitmate chance at walking out of the Cell as the new WWE champ. That potential for a title change seems legitmate, but the x-factor of Cena possibly joining the match to make a three-way or Punk scrapping it out to retain also seem like possibilities. Prediciton: CM Punk beats the odds with help from his evil geinus associate Paul Heyman to retain the WWE Championship and Ryback’s undefeated streak comes to an end. This will set the stage for Punk to call out the Rock for the Royal Rumble.
World Heavyweight Championship Hell in a Cell Match
Sheamus vs. The Big Show
The Big Show has been angered by World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus’s light-hearted antics and demanded the Celtic Warrior get ‘serious’ for their HIAC match for the ‘big gold belt’. Sheamus’s title run so far has been a mixed bag of good matches but lously storylines that have played out on Smackdown. If WWE wanted to take the World title off Sheamus tonight, could be the night.
Yet history proceeds Big Show as he may have held the World title before, but it was for 45 seconds last December at the TLC Pay Per View. Show has a past role as being a transitional champion and he could serve as just that heading into Wrestlemania next year. His career in the ring has been a strong one dating back to the mid-90’s with WCW. As the ‘biggest athlete in the world’, his days in WWE could be numbered and this could be his last big shot at the gold.
The match itself has been built around two moves: Big Show’s KO Punch and Sheamus’s Brogue Kick. Look for the loser to take one of these finnishers on the kisser more than once in this HIAC match. Prediction: Big Show upsets Sheamus with muliple KO Punches to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) vs. Team Rhode Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damian Sandow)
WWE has truly reinvested their mid-card talent pool into the Tag Team division, which has been the best non-main event related wrestling TV from the last month. Teams like Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara and the Prime Time Players made for some exciting action that reminds WWE fans that tag-wrestling is not just a ‘filler’ part of the card. WWE has been featuring the dysfunctional duo of Daniel Bryan and Kane as their WWE Tag Team Champions with fans eating up every bit of it. Their opponents are the esoteric team of Damian Sandow and Cody Rhodes whose tag-work together has been fun and inventive with both men working in their own move sets while still performing tandem manuevers. Prediciton: In a possible show-stealer, Sandow and Rhodes sneak out the backdoor with the WWE Tag Ttitles after using some underhanded tactics.
