When guitarist Mark Tremonti makes his solo-band San Antonio debut next month, he’s going to have a familiar name joining him on bass.
Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Van Halen will accompany Tremonti when the guitarist of Creed and Alter Bridge takes part in the 99.5-FM Kiss Fall Fest on Sunday, Oct. 7. The tour opened last night in Rhode Island with the young Van Halen bassist on stage.
Tremonti, who released his first solo album All I Was on July 17, tweeted earlier Tuesday: “Due to personal reasons, Brian Marshall won’t be with us on this tour. On a lighter note, the amazing @WolfVanHalen will be joining us!” Van Halen, the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen, confirmed Monday via Twitter: “Holy s—! An abrupt change of plans has left me playing bass with @MarkTremonti tomorrow! I’ve got some tunes to learn!”
Tremonti and Marshall — the bassist in Creed and Alter Bridge — played Sunken Gardens with Creed on Aug. 11.
Tremonti’s solo band will join Fall Fest headliners Three Days Grace along with 10 Years, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and San Antonio bands Memory of a Melody and The Heroine (see previous SAMME coverage on that concert announcement here). Tickets can be purchased here.
During our exclusive interview in March, Tremonti revealed: “One of my favorite shows of all-time was Alter Bridge’s gig at the Oyster Bake a few years back. No one knew who we were at the time.” Tremonti also went on to discuss how he forged a friendship with Wolfgang Van Halen and was invited to Van Halen’s studios to hear what would eventually be A Different Kind of Truth, which was released Feb. 7. Prior to the Fall Fest, Memory of a Melody and The Heroine will be part of a quartet of local bands playing Melodyfest at the AT&T Center’s Bud Light Courtyard on Sept. 21, along with The Panic Division and headliners Cult To Follow. Tickets for that can be bought here.
