I am disgusted! I downloaded Windows 8 onto one of our machines just for fun. After figuring out that I lost one of my favorite programs, I began to be barraged with advertisements, not from a virus or malware but from the apps that now come with built-in advertising. This new version of Windows is a selfish act of advertising aggression. It is not designed to be customer friendly but Microsoft monetizing. I am so angry right now that I have been suckered into another useless product that is geared to sucking an ever-increasing amount of money out of us. They are the epitome of today’s selfishness business models. It’s no longer the customer is always right. Now it’s screw the customer and get as much money out of them as you can.
I have little patience with the ever increasing monetization of product after product. I can no longer enjoy a Youtube video without wading through an increasing barrage of useless ads. If it weren’t for mute and ALT-TAB to do something else until the ad was over, I think I’d go crazy. I cannot download a game without being asked to register my email address, with the inevitable result of more time-wasting spam. I am one of those guys who hates walking into a store and being asked by two or three pushy sales people, if they can “help me” when we all know that what they really mean is help themselves to some of my money, by selling me something that I will probably use once and then trip over as my house becomes increasingly filled with useless impulse items.
I am also tired of those new restaurants at the food court constantly shouting at me to sample a piece of their crappy chicken whats-ya-ma-call-it. Leave me alone! So, why is it that Federal broadcast laws limit advertising on television to a ridiculously long time, but that advertising on the Internet has no such restrictions? I mean every single time I want to watch a news item on the Internet, I must wade through their monetization to get to what I want. Now Windows 8 has not only shoved my favorite Google apps aside and tried to take over my start screen with their crap that I don’t want, but they bombard me with constant advertising for their products.
Surely self-centered business models are a recipe for long-term disaster! My dad used to say that only honest business people that customers learn to trust will be in it for the long run. I believe that Acts 20:35 is a business model that works, a law of the Universe if you care. It is simply more blessed to give than to receive. My prediction is that the more selfish a business is, the less successful it will be long term. Forget it Microsoft! Hurry up Google! As soon as you are ready with an operating system, I’m switching. But, I cringe! By the time you are ready, you too will probably go with this awful selfish monetization of everything. Aaaaaaag!
