Wild Texas Galveston Island Shrimp Festival
This year’s Wild Texas Galveston Island Shrimp Festival was a raving success with beads galore, the bands playing late and the vendors in no hurry to leave! From the amateur to professional cash cook off and gumbo stroll to the shrimp kabobs, you will be sniffing down food to eat, and the smells are so amazing. Behind the hustle and bustle of this great festival, are 2 ships that set the scene of Galveston being the original port city of Texas: The USS Fort Worth which is being commissioned in Galveston and the Disney Cruise ship, Magic.
Some of the competitors this year were: 2 sisters; The Other Cookers (with the sign “The Other Cookers are always in Heat”); Bayou Gals, Broadwater’s Shrimply Mahvelous Dahling; The Texas Barbeque Massacre, as well as some more well-known pro.’s such as Bubba Gump’s; The West End Restaurant and Sandbar; San Lois; Joe’s Crab Shack; and of course Yaga’s is presenting this festival, as well as the upcoming Chili Quest and Beer Fest. Some of the food that was judged were: Shrimp gumbo, shrimp burgers, open shrimp, shrimp bisque (this sounds like Bubba Gump’s alright); and also chicken and sausage. Some of the top competitors mentioned were Shag’n wag’n; The Other Cookers; Roux Creaux; Gumbo Posse; KC Drunken Chickens; and Bar-B-Krewe.
To see the results of the winning teams that were finally posted yesterday, as we anxiously waited for them since last Sunday, click here to see their Facebook page where all the results have been posted publically. Make sure to check out the slideshow of this article with rockin pic.’s of the festival, the great visiting ships, and the great competitors! Just visiting the vendors you would see a chance to win a free car, a free boat and RV show with great boats for the gulf coast and bay areas, and you might end up going home with coupons for free appetizers to local restaurants such as Bubba Gump’s.
