When the University of Maryland takes on West Virginia, they will be debuting a brand new set of “White Ops” football uniforms designed by Under Armour, the company revealed Friday. As the name implies, “White Ops” will be a mixture of blinding white with camouflage elements on the jersey numbers (link).
The reveal also showed off the custom brushed metal helmet that the team will be wearing for their highly-anticipated showdown. The theme also extends to their white Under Armour gloves and white camo Under Armour Highlight cleats, which are among the lightest football cleats in the market.
This new look by the school will be a total reversal from last year’s infamous “Pride” uniforms, which featured elements taken from the Maryland state flag. The result was a uniquely flashy uniform that got plenty of attention for its boldness, both good and bad, although many people tended to side the latter more than the former. The negative media attention over the uniforms last year (link) might have contributed to this new take by Under Armour, taking it to its logical extreme.
