Few movies took the box office by storm like Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige’s incarnation of The Avengers. And along with landing over 1.5-billion dollars worldwide, The Avengers would present another trick up their sleeve by revealing the slated villain for the sequel, Thanos.
For long time fans of Marvel, Thanos is one of the true heavyweights in Marvel’s arsenal of villains, with a weird infatuation for death and nearly limitless power for all manners of deviant acts across the universe. And, with Guardians of the Galaxy already scheduled for premier on August 1, 2014, there is a good chance that fans of The Avengers will get an early peek of Thanos of Titan.
Even though Marvel Studios doesn’t require the added publicity, namely from the recent release of The Avengers on Blu-ray and DVD on September 25, studio heads have decided to give fans and followers an added treat this month on the Avengers: A Second Screen Experience app by releasing the concept art of the man from Titan. And if you’ve seen those waning seconds of The Avengers, then you should notice some subtle differences in the images posted above.
From the end of the Avengers to this concept art, one of the chief variations the designers chose was to make Thanos look increasingly menacing with glowing fiery eyes, which is a common trait seen on the pages of The Thanos Initiative. Additionally, fans with a keen eye for detail should note that the costume designers are considering to honor the source material by giving Thanos’ armor a modern upgrade, but staying true to the color scheme and design of his original outfit – which in all sense would not translate to a contemporary audience in its original form.
As mentioned above, fans of the Avengers can expect to see Thanos causing all forms of mischief in Guardians of the Galaxy, which in itself is another hefty project that James Gunn (famed writer of Slither) and Marvel studios is slated to tackle in the coming years. And though he is not officially listed in the plot synopsis on IMDB, longtime fans of Marvel have come in broad agreement that there are few ways to craft a Guardians of the Galaxy movie without bringing in this galactic heavyweight.
So, as the days wind down to the various premiers of Marvel’s multiple movie franchises, fans will just have to wait and see if writers and directors decide to leave a few more cookie crumbs along the path to The Avengers sequel.
