The cigar-shaped UFO continues its appearance across the country being reported in lower numbers than spheres, discs and triangles, but with most of the same elusive appearances as other unidentified flying objects.
Generally reported rather low in altitude and after dark, witness testimony describes an elongated appearance with mentions of the object hovering or in a slow-moving mode and all the while producing no sound.
The following six cases were all reported in August 2012 – the first case from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database; and the other five cases from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) witness reporting database.

Cigar shaped object observed in Pomona Missouri
“There was what appeared to be a cigar shaped object right above the highway. It was moving in an eastern direction, however, it was almost hovering (moving very slowly). There were six lights running along the side of the craft. The lights were so extremely bright that I couldnt see what color it was. I see it for approximately 5 minutes and then it disappeared out of view behind the tree lines. Unedited statement.

Orange/reddish cigar-shaped craft travels across the horizon and then disappears straight up vertically
“Orange/reddish cylinder-shaped craft with lights pulsating in brightness and color,” the witness stated. “Craft came over the horizon; no sound. Appeared to stop its forward travel and remain stationary for several seconds. Craft then went straight up vertically till the lights faded from view. Only one craft observed. Observer is a professional, working in the aerospace industry. This was no plane!” Unedited statement.

Huge long UFO moving very slow
“Slow moving craft at approx 2,000 to 3,000 feet in altitude,” the witness stated. “Looked the size of an aircraft carrier and had one red light at the rear and white light at front. No anti collision lights like on aircraft. This thing was huge and very slow moving from west to east. No sound at all.” Unedited statement.

Silver, silent cigar flew extremely slow for two minutes
“Live near airport so extremely used to SEEING and HEARING airplanes,” the witness stated. “This was NOT an airplane. It flew about the same height as an airplane for approximately two minutes. The craft, however, flew far too slowly to, in my opinion achieve lift as we understand the properties and physics of flight. It also made zero, absolutely zero sound. It was very plain to see that it was silver metallic and had no wings, this further hinders achieving lift, I would suppose. I watched in awe for about two minutes until it went out of sight. I immediately saw and heard later military aircraft in pursuit.” Unedited statement.

Two different craft, broad daylight, shape and flight characterists inconsistent with any known aircraft
“I was looking up at the sky to the northeast with the sun at my back and spotted a black object of indeterminate size at a high altitude, at approximately 55 degrees above the horizon,” the witness stated. “At that distance it was difficult to make out any detail, though it appeared to be elongated. By comparison, it appeared to be the approximate scale of a hyphen on a printed page held at arm’s length, ever so slightly thicker in the middle. No lights of any kind were observable on the craft and it did not change shape as would a bird flapping its wings. Within about 30 seconds, there appeared a bright, white cigar or disc-shaped object, following the trajectory of the first object. This object may have been larger or closer to me as it was much easier for me to see that it was an elongated shape. It had a much clearer ‘cigar’ or disc shape, bulging in the middle, and tapered/rounded at the edges. It was moving at a constant high rate of speed toward the southwest and left no contrail. It moved across the sky considerably faster than the jetliners frequently visible form this location following exactly the flight path of the first object and also receded too far to be visible after approximately 25 seconds.” Unedited statement.

21:46 EST West Windsor VT bright white low flying fast oblong object flying rapidly due north with blunt orange end.
“At approximately 9:46 on Saturday night, August 25th, a fast, flying oblong or lipstick-shaped object was seen traveling low to the north of Mt. Ascutney, VT. The arc of travel was more straight than round. The front appeared to glow bright white. The tail (a blunt end) seemed to glow orange. There was no tail ‘stream’ (the glow traveled with the object). The object was viewed for about three seconds (the span covered approximately a mile). The object seemed larger and longer than a falling star or comet and the image retained its shape and glow. In the sky it appeared to be half an inch to an inch—or larger than an average plane (maybe a little less than a quarter inch ‘thick,’ from top to bottom). Object was very bright, quick, and traveled more straight than curving, seemingly faster than the average jet. The object appeared to be heading almost due north.” Unedited statement.
