The winter comes late and slowly in the South, out of the sky in shorter days and dimming sun, a simultaneously creeping up from the green and gold of fall. In the spring there would be daffodils full in flower that gives way now to the absence of warm evenings to chilly nights and a lack of green landscape. Today’s fall transitional equinox sets us fully into preparedness for winter taking life gently, fully and listening to the Silence.
The poetry of the Soul
Complex divisions and change, mixed motives and a chance to feel closer to our experience, fall draws us inward from without experienced by summer. We see ourselves as experiencing becoming rather than fixed, a journey toward selfhood. Withdrawing into silence today experience and experiment with introspection and giving birth to new ideas and creative works. The silence creates by breaking silence in a single instant playing an indispensable part in the process.
Silence is not lack
Silence is powerful and not something that needs to be broken to let in life and meaning. It is not obvious and is desirable and necessary. The bustle of spring gives way to silent elemental forces that segway into yellow and orange clumps that shape our lives through the movement of seasons. Developing and maintaining a pattern in the landscape of life understanding the past and revealing the silent coming of light. Silence is a God a divining force.
Blurred and gradual
God speaks to creation with images and sounds so that scientific minds very logically want proof and evidence of things, is this fear. Every morning the sun rises and the fall returns as it should and yet doubt rises, terror can be slayed. Summers fire goes out and the chilly ushers in the dark and the issue that remains is one of balance. Smart enough and secure enough to invent science with its laws and rules out fearing silence brings comfort to some. Some need strategy and to put something into the void to render it powerless, but they are still frightened.
To deny silence is to deny power
We know this to be true from stories of those who are banished from a city or put into solitary confinement, but this is delineation from the magical rules, the non-theological. Sound can be stressful and cause physical discomfort, a noisy environment of tense and violent people. Labor saving devices cause more noise that by doing it manually. Communication devices increase human contact all the while inviting us further away from the silence and God, leaving us thinking we are only fulfilled by interaction.
Silence is the response to enormity
Silence is awe for something to deep for words. Silence challenges the rational, it is not negative. So with gratitude and affection not founded on words but by pointing to One mind, the penetrating the nature of things, Mother Nature brings us fall.
