World travelers heading for Kansas City, Kansas and who love to shop (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) should be sure to check out the Legends Outlets. This is the region’s first upscale destination outlet center that offers designer value with a unique experience.
So just what can you expect there? So glad you asked.
At Legends Outlets, Kansas City, there are almost 100 stores and restaurants. You can reach those stores along with 34 restaurants by means of an outdoor central walkway. Parking is easy (which always helps).
Don’t miss the plaques built into the ground that commemorate famous Kansas icons.
You won’t fail to miss the Amelia Earhart plane and picture of this famous Kansas native. But did you catch the plaques for Dr. James Naismith, Wilt Chamberlain, Russell Stover, Wyatt Earp, Vivian Vance and Dwight D. Eisenhower? You can take a free audio tour of the Legends shopping center to help you locate everything.
If all the shopping gets you exhausted, feel free to take a much needed rest in front of the dancing fountain.
It’s not surprising to learn that the outlet shopping center is located in the heart of Village West, the number one tourist destination in Kansas.
And it was in this number one tourist destination that just last year, in 2011, Livestrong Sporting Park opened up. This is the multi-entertainment stadium and it’s home to Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City team.
If you get a chance to watch a football match here, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll be so excited by all the pre-game festivities you’ll feel the team has already won, and the game won’t even have started yet! A terrific atmosphere.
While you are there be sure to check out Cabela’s. This Examiner would not have called herself a sports-shop afficionado but there’s more to Cabela’s than just guns and hunting goods.
This store has an aquarium and animal displays (just how many deer can you find in the one place? There are scores here) that will keep the whole family entertained. It’s not surprising that the average shopping experience here is almost four hours!
Keep the children in your group happy (or just your own inner child) with a lunch stop at TRex which is full of animatronics depicting the jurassic era. Regulars to this restaurant say that there is so much in it, they often see something new, no matter how many times they’ve visited it.
Be sure to try their colossal Chocolate Explosion for a tasty and visual treat!
Other attractions to experience are the Kansas Speedway (you can even do their driving school), the Hollywood Casino where you can have dinner as you watch over the Speedway, the Nebraska Furniture Mart, and Cabela’s.
Should you be visiting at the end of the year, know that Cabela’s Black Friday lasts for 23 hours.
In December, the Legends Outlets has a spectacular holiday lighting ceremony. The shopping area sees a 45-foot holiday tree in the middle of the fountain with a light show taking place every half an hour. There’s live music and entertainment and jolly old Santa himself makes a surprise arrival every year.
After a visit here, you will understand why Legends receives 10 million visitors a year and why locals and visitors alike know that Legends is Kansas City’s upscale destination outlet center rooted in designer value but with a one-of-a-kind experience.
Don’t miss it!
Legends is located just 15-minutes from Lawrence, Overland Park, CI or downtown Kansas
