Samantha Geimer, the woman whom Roman Polanski was convicted of having sex with when she was a teenager is writing a tell-all book about the Hollywood sex scandal that found Polanksi fleeing the United States according to the Wednesday, October 10 Huffington Post reports.
Now a grown woman of 47, Samantha Geimer has recently signed a deal with Atria Books to release her story “The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski.”
Geimer’s new book is scheduled for release in the fall of 2013 and is reported to be going to fully describe Samantha Geimer’s “insight into many dimensions of the story that have never previously been revealed.”
In a statement released by Samantha Geimer she stated, “I am more than ‘Sex Victim Girl,’ a tag the media pined on me. My friends in junior high, scolded by their parents to stay away from that girl, also labeled me. I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose – to share a tale that in its detail will reclaim my identity. I have been dogged by tired thinking and easy tags nearly my entire life. I am not a stick figure. I know what it is like to be a woman and a victim in the realest possible way.”
Lawrence Silver, Samantha Geimer’s lawyer stated that he will also be contributing his personal insights to Geimer’s memoir on the “many fascinating and even shocking legal aspects of the story.”
In 1977 Roman Polanski was accused of drugging Samantha Geimer with Quaaludes and champagne during a modeling shoot at the home of Jack Nicholson and raping the teen. Polanski was indicted in six felony counts, which included rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy, but only pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.
With the plea bargain the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sentenced Roman Polanski to a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. Polanski was released after only a 42-evaluation after the evaluator deemed Poalnski as mentally sound and stable, and believed that he would be unlikely to offend again. The judge was not so believing of Roman Polanski’s evaluation and threatened Polanski, who immediately fled the United States to avoid a prison sentence for the rape of Samantha Geimer.
Samantha Geimer fled a ;lawsuit against Roman Polanski in 1988, alleging sexual assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and seduction.
Roman Polanski and Samantha Geimer reached a settlement in 1993 when Polanski agreed to set pay her $500,000 to settle the lawsuit, although years later it has never been reported as to whether or not Polanski actually made good o the settlement agreement or not. Geimer however was reported to have stated that she has now forgiven Polanski.
Roman Polanski, 79 is best known for his award winning film including “Chinatown,” and the hit thriller “Rosemary’s Baby,” and his connection with Charles Manson, when his wife pregnant Sharon Tate was brutally murdered by members of the Manson Family while staying at Polanski’s Benedict Canyon home above Los Angeles.
Because of his crimes Polanksi has also been restricted by an Interpol that is effective in 188 countries. Roman Polanski currently lives between Switzerland and France and was freed in 2010 from Swiss house arrest in 2010, when the Swiss government refused to deport Polanski to the United States.
During an interview for a later film documentary, Roman Polanski apologized to Samantha Geimer, and in a separate interview with Swiss TV he said that he has regretted that episode for the last 33 years.
