Every year, there is a contestant on “The X Factor” U.K. whom viewers seem to love to hate. In 2012, that contestant is Ryan Clark, who says he has been getting death threats from people who are angry that he was chosen for the Top 24 instead of other contestants at “X Factor” boot camp. Meanwhile, hip-hop duo MK1 was almost disqualified when Simeon Dixon broke his leg and might have been unable travel to America for the “judges’ houses” phase of the competition.
Clark, 23, has been a controversial contestant because of his drama-queen antics on the show and because many viewers think he is a lot less talented than many singers who were eliminated instead of Clark. He told The Sun: “I’ve had a couple of death threats on Twitter.”
Most contestants would be grateful to make it this far on “The X Factor,” but Clark didn’t sound too grateful when he complained about wanting to have Louis Walsh as his “X Factor” mentor instead of Nicole Scherzinger. Walsh is mentoring the Groups category in 2012, while Scherzinger is mentoring the Boys category (male solo singers ages 16 to 27).
Clark griped to The Sun, “If someone had asked me to list the judges in order, I’d have put Louis first. He knows there’s money to be made from people like me. I’m not comparing myself to Jedward [who is managed by Walsh] – but they didn’t have a great first audition and now the kids are worth millions. That’s why I wanted Louis.”
As for MK1, the act originally auditioned for “The X Factor” U.K. as a trio, but group members Dixon (24 years old) and Lotte “Charlie” Rundle (19 years old) decided to dump MK1 co-founder Will Baker, 27, at the audition, after the show’s judges said that MK1 would not advance to the next round unless Baker left MK1.
Coincidence or not, Baker is now working with Justin Edwards (also known as rapper MC Ultra), the ex-boyfriend of “X Factor” U.K. judge Tulisa Contostavlos whom she sued for leaking a sex video that they made when she was 19. (The lawsuit was settled out of court in July 2012, and Edwards made a public apology for leaking the video.)
Rundle’s father told The Sun that MK1 almost got disqualified from the competition after Dixon broke his leg playing soccer was unsure if he could make to the “judges’ houses” phase of the competition, which the Groups category filmed in Vegas in early September 2012 with Walsh and guest mentor Sharon Osbourne. “Simeon broke his leg. There was debate as to whether he could fly … Sharon was very motherly. Louis heard [Lotte/Charlie] sing just with the mic – just her voice. I have got my fingers crossed.”
