The 24th Universal Light Expo (ULE) had a theme this year of Light of Ascension. Overall, ULE was up to the task of creating a very uplifting light energy during the two day show on October 13 and October 14, 2012. People that brought two cans of food for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank received a $1 discount from the modest $10 entrance fee. You can keep up with ULE by using the website www.UniverseExpo.com.
The biggest complaint among visitors was that they had difficulty in choosing which speaker session to attend among three or four that they wanted to visit in a given time slot. The ULE committee claims that Spirit exercises divine order to make the selections for speakers, and there is a measure of truth in this claim. Speakers are chosen in January for an event in October.
Freddy Silva was one of the headline speakers, with his topic promoting his book Common Wealth. Freddy provided a discussion of sacred places, sacred sounds and sacred altered states. He focused upon “acoustic hotspots” and their ability to induce altered states of consciousness and healing. Dottie and Joe Asselin spoke about Auras and Energy Awareness. Ken Harsh lectured on Shambhala and the Light of Ascension. Most of the lectures were at no additional charge to visitors to ULE.
The Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery once again created a beautiful and wholly temporary sand mandala. The slideshow in this article shows the tools that are used to create these mandalas. Each construction has a different purpose, with this year’s mandala being focused on healing. The tools used to create the mandala are part of the enclosed slideshow.
Within the hour that the mandala was created, it was celebrated with chanting, drumming, cymbals and unique Tibetan instruments. Then, it was dismantled. Visitors were given small amounts of the colored sand from the mandala and then a procession led by the monks went to the Scioto River to spread the remaining sand upon the waters. An explanation of the purpose of this year’s mandala and part of the closing ceremony are in the enclosed video.
The variety of vendors was hard to comprehend unless you attended the ULE. Unique spirit masks by Maggie Hardin were constructed of bark that had nature energy clearly entrained within the masks. There were several booths selling gems and crystals, with pendulums formed from many different forms of stones. Some of the vendors also provided workshops on how to use their products, including Douglas Blue Feather on the Native American flute and Steve Rosley’s talk, Healing with Crystals and Crystal Skulls.
There was also a great selection of readers and healers. Booths provided reflexology, massage, and very specialized energy work that had people recommending specific treatments to their friends. Many forms of readings were available from mediums and psychics using tarot, runes, angel cards and direct access to spirit.
The Christian Spiritualist Temple provided the lowest cost readings at ULE with 10 minute readings for $10 and healing with no charge. Overall, ULE was not about the money, and the energy was excellent for healing and enlightenment. You can learn more about the Christian Spiritualist Temple at www.christianspiritualisttemple.org, which also has a listing of Community Events related to spiritual development.
For a festival that lasted eight to ten hours each day, it was necessary to have good food available. ULE chose food vendors that appealed to a wide range of tastes and diet needs. Flavors of India, which normally operates at the North Market, provided vegetarian and meat dishes. Earth Smart Café had vegetarian plates, with a much appreciated selection of gluten free desserts. Phil’s Grille also provided meat or vegetarian plates, and their baklava was tasty and a good portion. Vets Concessions and Vets Cafeteria provided conventional food for the less adventurous palates.
The 25th annual Universal Light Expo will be on October 12 and October 13, 2013. For those that intend to be speakers or vendors, it is good to request your space and your speaking slot now. Vendors can obtain an application at http://www.UniverseExpo.com or by calling Tammi Rager at 614-271-4756. Speakers should e-mail Ken Harsh at KarmaKenHa@aol.com with their topic and a brief outline of their lecture.
About the light of ascension that appeared over Vets Memorial last weekend, it turned out to be Venus, the planet of love and healing energy. It will be great to see you at the ULE in 2013.
