“Revenge” aired the all-new episode “Forgiveness” last night, Oct. 28 on ABC.
The latest twister is awash with the tone of a gray, cloudy day. There is a lot of sadness, coupled with the threat of an impending storm.
“Revenge” repeatedly serves up shockers and drops bombshells and this episode is filled with plenty.
Emily has a grave memory and delivers stunning revelations to Nolan (Gabriel Mann) and Amanda (Margarita Levieva).
Overall, it’s a very tumultuous time for her and we can only hope that Emily’s emotions are not clouding her judgment to her future detriment…
Mother and Child Reunion
Emily VanCamp presents some of her most emotional work to date as Emily Thorne remembers that her mother drowned her when she was younger and her father brought her back to life. What a horrific thing to recall! How can she even function under the weight of something like that?
Did anyone else think just briefly of the classic Paul Simon tune when Emily comes face-to-face with Kara (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and they interact for the first time?
Seems strange that a mother wouldn’t recognize her own child, but, Kara does have mental problems, so…
But, “We will not give you false hopes…” (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)
At any rate, Amanda awakes from the coma and she is also united with her son, baby Carl, for the first time. Then doting Grandma Kara appears and something just feels wrong about the whole thing.
Plus, Aiden drops the bombshell that Kara was married to White-Haired-Man Gordon Murphy. We all know what a despicable man he was (RIP!) What kind of a sick person would marry someone like that?
Then, surprise! Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) insists that Kara stay at Grayson Manor. The funny thing is it’s obvious neither of these ladies trust each other – so, by the proposed living arrangements, they can keep each other under their thumb.
But, the most bittersweet moment comes when Amanda listens to Kara tell her how she was very sick, not responsible for all of her actions and hopes that she forgives her one day…
Emily listens from the hallway with tears streaming down her face and then, double-shocker: Amanda actually forgives her!
Questions: Was this apology sincere? Did Kara’s illness really explain her actions or was there something much more sinister at play? What is Kara Clarke’s hidden agenda? Why the sudden interest in her daughter after all these years?
And finally, what was Amanda thinking? Was the forgiveness genuine or is there some kind of ulterior motive behind it?
We know if Kara was married to someone like Murphy, who is obviously her “true” love (based on her conversation with Emily) then she is playing on a very dangerous team. Frankly, everyone around Kara needs to watch their backs. No one is safe, not even an innocent child…
The saddest part is that Emily is still clearly vulnerable where her mother is concerned and she desperately wants to believe that her mother didn’t have monstrous intentions. However, Emily is best not to wipe the slate clean on that one – or the second chance at life her father gave her could prove to be a lethal mistake.
One Step Forward, Two Steps Back for Nolan
Gabriel Mann really delivers the heartache when Nolan drops the news to Emily that his dad passed away. It’s a tender, rare moment between the two scheming BFFs and once again, we feel so sorry for Nolan – whose own life always takes a backseat to Emily’s.
More turmoil abounds when Padma goes snooping into David Clarke’s connection to Nolcorp. Just when Nolan thinks he has found someone he can trust, she’s taking meetings with Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman) and not keeping Nolan in the loop.
The worst part is that Nolan may be poised to suffer a huge financial blow, as Grayson Global has controlling interest at Nolcorp and GG may be on the verge of collapse.
Is Padma digging around in an attempt to save Nolcorp from ruin? Or, is she working some kind of secret plot that will take Grayson Global and Nolcorp down together?
It’s not pleasant watching the naïve but loyal Nolan get duped – professionally and personally. Nolan and Padma have a ton of chemistry and it’s a shame he can’t cut a break when it comes to matters of the heart.
Emily seems to have his back and he’s tipped off, at least, to Padma’s inquiries. It’ll be interesting to see if the budding Nolma “romance” evolves into a game of who can outplay the other the best…
And Baby Makes Three
Jack (Nick Wechsler) seems happy that Amanda is out of the coma and he assures her he’s “not going anywhere.”
Emily watches the newly formed family with an understandably wistful expression. In swapping identities with Amanda, she essentially handed Amanda the life and the love she could have been having.
In a surprising move, Emily tells Amanda the truth – that Jack is Carl’s father. Amanda is shocked (and relieved) and questions Emily’s reason for the lie.
Emily tells her she was just trying to keep her on her side.
Amanda seems to feel genuinely sorry for Emily for living the life with Jack that she could have had. She suggests telling Jack the truth. Emily warns her not to – she doesn’t want to see Jack get hurt anymore and the truth would really hurt him.
Amanda’s sudden conviction and concern just seems too good to be true. Is her family life with Jack and her son going to be enough to satisfy her? Or, is Emily, once again, trusting Amanda too much? Is Amanda secretly working to eventually get Emily out of the picture?
The final shocking twist comes when Mason Treadwell makes Amanda aware that he is on to her. He knows she’s not who she is pretending to be.
What, pray tell, is the snaky, snarky Mason Treadwell going to do with that information?
The plot keeps turning in this never-ending, harrowing chain of events. The only thing certain is that Emily is going to have to identify all of her enemies fast and stay ten steps ahead of them to avoid taking a terrible (and possibly fatal) fall…
“Revenge” airs Sundays at 9 PM EST on ABC.
