WWE put on their annual pay-per-view on the night of Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 that takes wrestlers and places them in the unfriendly confines of a giant steel cage. It is unlike normal wrestling steel cages though as it encompasses the whole ringside area and even encloses the superstars inside. Sunday night was the time for WWE to put on “Hell in a Cell.”
~ Alberto del Rio vs. Randy Orton: This actually wasn’t a bad match, and it was nice to see WWE not give away a title match as the opener. Both men get the upper-hand at times and there are some near falls, but Orton is eventually able to turn a Del Rio springboard into an impressive RKO for the win.
~ WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Team Hell No (c) vs. Team Rhodes Scholars: Kane and Daniel Bryan really work so well together out there. Then again, so do Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes so this turns into a really good match that gets a much undeserved crappy ending. Kane goes off near the end and insists he is the legal man which keeps him in the ring too long and causes a disqualification.
After that whole tag team tournament, the payoff is Team Rhodes Scholars winning by DQ? That’s horrible.
~ Intercontinental Championship Match – Kofi Kingston (c) vs. The Miz: The majority of this match was dominated by Kofi so it isn’t surprising that he ended up retaining here. Word is also out that The Miz is being brought back up to the main event side of WWE.
~ United States Championship Match – Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. Justin Gabriel: After the good match between these two earlier this week, it isn’t totally unexpected that they had another on the PPV. The first match was better, but this was still good and saw Cesaro retain. Wish they would have built a program between them before the payoff.
~ Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara vs. The Primetime Players: This match was basic tag material with the heels keeping control for the majority before the luchadores get riled up and Mysterio hits the 619 and splash for the win.
~ World Heavyweight Championship Match – Sheamus (c) vs. The Big Show: Still not entirely sure why this wasn’t in the cage, but oh well. Big Show pretty much controls this entire match with Sheamus only getting in random bouts of offense. In time, Sheamus even hits White Noise, but can’t end up making the pin. Show eventually ducks another attempt at a Brogue Kick, hits the knockout punch, and takes the title.
~ WWE Diva’s Championship Triple Threat – Eve (c) vs. Kaitlyn vs. Layla: It is blatantly obvious that there isn’t enough faith in Kaitlyn yet, and therefore the addition of Layla. At the end, Eve hits a Swanton bomb to break-up a pin attempt by Layla and covers to retain.
~ Hell in a Cell WWE Title Match – CM Punk (c) vs. Ryback: Setting things up, there are a couple of referees out there as usual with the cell matches. The match is quite back and forth with Punk playing old school heel and Ryback taking the role of old school babyface. It’s really quite fun watching Ryback dominate, but Punk get the advantage with underhanded tactics and then his talent.
At the end, Ryback is in control and has Punk up for the Shellshock to finish things. One of the refs low blows Ryback which allows Punk to roll him up for the fast count and win.
Afterward, Punk and the ref can’t get out quickly because the door is locked. Ryback takes out the ref and then chases Punk to the top of the cage. Ryback catches him, delivers a Shellshock on top of the cage, and then stands tall as the crowd starts chanting “Feed Me More!”
