Ram Truck brand is the new Truck Line of Texas as announced early this morning by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) following their 20th annual Texas Truck Rodeo near San Antonio, Texas this weekend.
The new 2013 Ram 1500 re-captured the highly coveted Truck of Texas trophy as they lead the Ram brand charge to take the Truck Line of Texas honor.
Jeep Grand Cherokee continued its reign as the “most awarded” SUV in automotive history as they won the highly regarded SUV of Texas award with their 2013 model line. This was their third year in a row winning this award from the Texas Auto Writers at the annual TAWA Truck Rodeo at Knibbe Ranch.
Ram and Jeep wins in vehicle categories included:
Full size SUV: 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Mid size SUV: 2013 Jeep Wrangler
Full-size luxury SUV: 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit
Full-size pickup truck: 2013 Ram 1500
Luxury pickup truck: 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn
In the only major award not won by Ram or Jeep, the new, and just debuted, Buick 2013 Enclave won the very well regarded CUV of Texas award impressing the journalists with its styling, performance and luxury appointments.
There were over 60 pickup trucks, SUVs and CUVs from 20 manufacturer brands entered in the competition in the various categories. More than 50 Texas Auto Writer Journalists gathered at the Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch Texas near San Antonio to put these vehicles to the test for two days of almost non-stop driving.
Depending on the category, vehicle entrants were driven on the road course, the two-wheel off-road and/or the extreme four-wheel off road course by the TAWA journalists. Vehicles were then ranked in numerical order by each journalist and tabulated to determine the final winners.
From this TAWA member point of view, this was one of the strongest fields of entrants in every category in several years. In several cases selections of the winners was very close between one or more vehicles. More than in past years, journalists were seen taking a vehicle they had already run the course with and going back out again with that vehicle to confirm their thinking or evaluating further before making their final choices.
The specific category level other winners were:
Compact SUV: 2013 Ford Escape
Mid-size luxury SUV: 2013 Ford Explorer Sport
Full-size CUV: 2013 Buick Enclave
Mid-size luxury CUV: 2013 Cadillac SRX
Compact CUV: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
Midsize CUV: 2013 GMC Terrain
Full-size CUV: 2013 GMC Acadia
Mid-size pickup truck: 2013 Toyota Tacoma
Heavy-duty pickup truck: 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty
