Nine players got onto the score sheet on a soggy Saturday afternoon as UNC demolished Idaho 66-0 on a soggy Saturday at Kenan Stadium. The 66 points scored made for a new UNC record.
The win improved the Tar Heels to 3-2, while the Vandals of the Western Athletic Conference – who got an $800,000 guarantee for the trip in the teams’ first meeting – fell to 0-5 with their eighth straight loss.
Bryn Renner threw for three touchdowns while Marquise Williams ran for two and threw for another. Giovani Bernard rushed for a pair of TDs and Quinshad Davis caught two TD passes. And Casey Barth kicked a school record nine extra points along with a field goal.
The Tar Heels finished with 575 yards total offense to the visitors’ 189.
UNC scored on its first three possessions, leading 28-0 after the first quarter and 45-0 at halftime.
The Tar Heels will return to ACC action next Saturday, hosting Virginia Tech at 12:30 p.m.
