Forecast discussion: The low pressure system that gave Providence showers and light rain on Friday moved into Bangor, Maine this evening. However, a new low pressure system over Connecticut will help create some isolated showers this evening, but end by the early morning on Monday. A high pressure system over the Great Lakes will give us clearing skies by Monday afternoon. But, the pressure gradient will remain tight, so we will see increasing west-southwest winds in the afternoon.
Winds will begin to decrease tomorrow night, as the high moves closer to the Northeast U.S. The high will protect us until Tuesday afternoon. From there, a strong low pressure system bringing good rainfall to the drought ridden Southeast U.S. will bring a few showers by Tuesday evening. The low will remain to our west on Wednesday, but it will bring the potential for some heavy rainfall into Wednesday evening.
By Thursday, a new high will bring drier weather to the region. But, we will be awaiting another low pressure system from the Central U.S. for Saturday. It will give us some morning showers early on the day, before cooler air and drier conditions prevail. The rest of next weekend is not clear at this time. The computer models disagree on whether a strong high pressure system will keep us clear, or another low pressure system moves over the Northeast, and creates more showers and light rain for next Sunday. For now, based on how the weather pattern seems to be setting up for most of this week, I will add scattered showers. However, my confidence at this time is quite low.
Meanwhile, in the tropics, Hurricane Nadine will be moving northward and weaken as it enters cooler waters. It is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone within five days.
