Created by two mothers concerned about the dangers of unsecured beach umbrellas blowing around on the beach, The Noblo Umbrella Buddy is a practical, problem-solving product that anchors umbrellas for safety and sun protection.
As Noblo explains, “Beach umbrellas are a necessity for sun protection, especially for young children. But a windy day at the beach can send umbrellas flying through the air. Small enough to fit in your pocket, The Noblo utilizes the abundantly available resource of sandy to weigh down umbrellas and defend against gusty winds.
Bess Abraham and Kathleen Pisano met at the beach in Ocean Grove, NJ, where their six children often played together. After witnessing a beach umbrella impale a woman’s leg in Florida, Bess always had been cautious of flying beach umbrellas. She admired Kathleen’s improvised anchor tied with a bag of sand. The two decided to create a simple product that would encourage more beachgoers to anchor their umbrellas, creating a safer environment for everyone on the beach. After careful research and a dedication to local manufacturing, The Noblo Umbrella Buddy was born in 2011.
The Noblo is manufactured in New Jersey and packaged by citizens with disabilities through the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation in Eatontown, NJ. The Noblo is available in several colors for $14.99 at www.thenoblo.com.

An artist by trade, Bess Abraham knows how to think creatively. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that she helped to develop an ingenious, yet simple way to keep beach umbrellas anchored to the sand. Abraham, 41, has used her flair for the artistic to create special occasion cakes for upscale restaurants and decorate pastries for a leading organic caterer. Along with her husband, she also co-founded BESS, a high-end fashion and accessories line worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Jacobs, and Mary-Kate Olson. She lives in New York City with her three kids, husband, and pit bull mix.
The constant concern that one of her children would be hurt by a flying beach umbrella inspired Kathleen Pisano, 40, to create Noblo – Keeping people out of harm’s way is a theme that has followed Pisano throughout her life. The mother of three boys fought forest fires in Alaska, served as a mate on a fishing boat, and now works as an RN at a rehabilitation center. The Noblo is an extension of her strong dedication to safety issues. Pisano lives in New Jersey, with her husband and children.”
