President Barack Obama made a campaign appearance in Northern Virginia at the G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Virginia.
The campaign event was held at the stadium that is the home of the Potomac Nationals, a minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals. It is also locate in Prince William County, a county that President Obama won in 2008, the first Democrat to win that county since President Lyndon Baines Johnson won it in 1964.
The state of Virginia is a battleground state and is in play for the Obama campaign, as shown by the latest Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll. The poll shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney, 50% to 46%. The key element being that Obama pierced the 50% mark in yet another poll.
President Obama called out Mitt Romney for summarily dismissing nearly half the nation. 47% to be exact, in a secretly recorded video of Mitt Romney.
Romney told a group of wealthy donors that half of Americans are people that “who pay no income tax” and are “dependent upon government.” He dismissed this group as being people that will support President Obama because they believe they are “victims” who are “entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”
President Obama responded to the criticism of Mitt Romney toward the 47%. “I don’t believe we can get very far with leaders who write off half the nation as a bunch of victims,” President Obama said to the applause of the Virginians.
He pointed out, “I don’t see a lot of victims in this crowd today. I see hard-working Virginians.”
He spelled out some of the people that Mitt Romney was referring, “Some of you may be students trying to work your way through college. Some of you may be single moms like my mom, putting in overtime to see if you can provide a better life for your kids. Some of you may be senior citizens who have been saving your whole life for your retirement. Some of you may be veterans who have served this country bravely, soldiers who defend our freedom today.”
He finished with the 47% statement by Romney by arguing that “Nobody believes that anyone is entitled to success in this country. We don’t believe that government should be helping people who refuse to help themselves. But we do believe in something called opportunity.”
The issue of the 47% video of Mitt Romney will not go away anytime soon and will be a constant reminder to the American people how much this candidate, Mitt Romney, detests his fellow Americans.
This video of Mitt Romney is not just frosting on the cake of the message and the story that the Barack Obama campaign has been telling about Mitt Romney. That he is an out-of-touch wealthy person and that when talks to his own elements, he is truly one of them.
And not one of us.
If it wasn’t so sad and pathetic, we could have a good laugh about this man. Maybe after November 6th it will be much funnier.
