For costumers who want to wear costumes post-Halloween, there are two events in the San Francisco Bay Area where they can do just that. The Period Events and Entertainments Re-creation Society (PEERS) is hosting their annual Le Bal Des Vampires at the Alameda Elks Lodge on Saturday, Nov. 3, while a new science fiction and fantasy convention, Convolution, will be held from Friday, Nov. 2, through Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame.
PEERS Le Bal Des Vampires
Attendees at this popular ball are encouraged to wear evening dress of the century and country of their “rebirth,” which may include dress uniform, period costume (authentic or fantasy), and vintage or modern evening dress.
The upstairs formal ballroom will feature Bangers & Mash who will be playing haunting waltzes and a variety of vintage dance music. Modern dark dance music provided by Nightfall will be played at the Lodge’s gymnasium 40 yards away.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and dancing will continue until midnight. Tickets must be purchased in advance. The deadline for purchasing tickets is midnight on Friday, Nov. 2, or until the event sells out.
At this first Convolution, there will be lots of opportunities to wear costumes inspired by science fiction, fantasy, Steampunk, horror, anime and even history. The main costume event at the convention is the Masked Ball on Saturday, Nov. 3, starting at 9:00 p.m. There are also live-action role playing games scheduled. Of additional interest to costumers are several panels on different aspects of costuming such as mask making, fitting patterns, special effects makeup and shoes for the costumer.
Online registration is now closed but you may still attend by registering at the convention. You can find more information about hours, prices and special guests at the Convolution web site.
