Pithing Needle is a rare artifact card from Wizards of the Coast’s expert “Magic: the Gathering” expansion set “Return to Ravnica.”
Pithing Needle – 1
As Pithing Needle enters the battlefield, name a card.
Activated abilities of sources with the chosen name can’t be activated unless they’re mana abilities.
“The fearful want the procedure before a blood festival. The guilty seek it afterward.”
Originally printed in “Saviors of Kamigawa” and reprinted in both “Tenth Edition” and “M10,” Pithing Needle is a versatile sideboard card that functions either as a silver bullet or a main deck answer to a plethora of troublesome permanents. From Standard to Vintage, Pithing Needle is so powerful that it sees play in every format it’s legal in.
Pithing Needles completely shuts down pesky planeswalkers like Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Liliana of the Veil. Decks which revolve around their planeswalker, such as Domri Rade or Garruk Caller of Beasts, lose a significant amount of steam against you.
There’s a plethora of creatures Pithing Needle neuters. A few recent examples include Lotleth Troll, Deathrite Shaman, Duskmantle Guildmage, Mercurial Chemister, and Aetherling. That Maze’s End deck your friend has? Pithing Needle stops it dead in its tracks. With a myriad of other permanents in the game that have activated abilities, we’re barely scratching the surface of cards Pithing Needle answers.
Because Pithing Needle only costs one mana to cast, it’s the perfect addition to any deck running Trinket Mage.
How will you use Pithing Needle?
