The Four Seasons Bangkok just rolled out the red carpet for one of the city’s most exciting food events of the year at the 13th World Gourmet Festival which was held September 3 to 9, 2012. This event is still one of the best ways to get up close and personal with a bevy of world class guest chefs and indulge in some of the most innovative cuisine the city has to offer. This year highlighted the gastronomic delights of eight master chefs from around the world including: Chef Diego Irrera from 1884 Restaurante in Mendoza, Argentina; Chef Galvin Lim from Les Amis in Singapore; Chef Michael Mina from Michael Mina in San Francisco, USA; Chef Víctor Quintillà Imbernón from Lluerna in Barcelona, Spain; Chef Masa Shimakawa from ONYX in Los Angeles, USA; Chef Frédéric Vardon from LE 39V in Paris, France and Chef Shiqin Chen, from La Rei, and Chef Igor Macchia from La Credenza who both work in Piedmont, Italy.
At its heart the World Gourmet Festival is truly an international exchange of culinary ideas, styles, and trends that allows guests to experience haute cuisine at the highest level. According to Chef Diego Irrera form Argentina, this is one of the best ways to “experience natural and authentic cuisine made with love”.
This year guests were treated to daily gourmet Showcase Lunches hosted by the esteemed chefs as well as the Wine Master Class with Jeannie Cho Lee, the Ceremony of World Class Cheeses (Cérémonie des Fromages) with Jean-François Antony, and the tea mixology event with Dilmah Tea and Robert Schinkel . Another highlight was the ever popular Sunday Brunch which is held the last day of the event and is an opportunity for guests to sample all of the chefs’ food at one time. “I want people to leave feeling that we have served them inspiring courses of delicious food that is perfectly balanced with all components playing in harmony.” stated Chef Michael Mina from San Francisco.
Arguably the highpoint of the festival is the highly coveted World Gourmet Festival Dinners, where each chef gets to pull out all the stops and create a stunning 6-course meal that reflects their unique style and individual food philosophy. ” I admire all the chefs doing this with passion, and I know they are putting a lot of effort into making people happy” added Chef Igor Macchia from Italy.
World Gourmet Festival is more than an opportunity to sample exotic teas, enjoy sublime signature creations from master chefs, and indulge in fine wine and cheeses. As always, it is a philanthropic venture which raises awareness and funds for children in Thailand. This year $16.23USD (500Baht) from each ticket sold was donated to the “Save A Child’s Life from AIDS” project under the auspices of HRH Princess Soamsawali, in coordination with the Thai Red Cross. It is a memorable celebration where philanthropy and gastronomy go hand in hand. “My strongest desire is that every guest at the World Gourmet Festival experiences unique moments. The greatest reward is people remembering this for a long time” shared Chef Frédéric Vardon from France.
