From Oct. 28 through Nov. 11, Petco and the Petco Foundation are hosting their third annual national pet food drive to insure a healthy and happy holiday season for pet parents and their four-legged family members across the country. Best Friends Animal Society and Hill’s Science Diet are co-sponsors of the pet food drive.
During this two-week period, anyone can purchase extra food while they are shopping at Petco or bring in unopened cans or bags of food and drop them off in specially marked collection bins in any of the 1,150 Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores nationwide. Hill’s Science Diet will match every bag of Science Diet dog and cat food donated up to 80,000 pounds.
“We believe that pets enrich our lives and strengthen our communities, and those pets deserve loving homes, the best nutrition and a high quality of life,” said Paul Jolly, the Executive Director of the Petco Foundation and a Petco vice president. “No one should have to give up their beloved four-legged family member due to financial hardship. The pet food donated during the annual Pet Food Drive is an incredible gift leading into the holiday season, and such an easy way for people to help families in need take care of their pets.”
Last year’s pet food drive collected over 338,000 pounds of pet food for needy families. This year’s collection goal is 500,000 pounds. The food collected during the drive will be given to local food banks in each community to help families who need assistance feeding their pets. Food donated at Petco stores in the metro Atlanta area will be donated to Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen headquartered in Lawrenceville.
In addition to providing an opportunity to donate food to help needy pet parents, Petco is also offering members of the community a chance to volunteer to help out during the pet food drive through VolunteerMatch.
