Get super excited Oncers! New clips from “The Crocodile” prove that this episode is worth the hype. The past three episodes have been good, but Captain Hook’s grand entrance is the one we’ve been anxiously waiting for since the very first teasers debuted at Comic-Con in July. Now the wait is over (sort-of.)
Here is a little taste of ‘Once Upon A Time’s’ fourth episode, airing this Sunday (October 21) at 8 p.m. on ABC.
In “The Crocodile,” Rumple’s wife, Milah, appears to have been taken by pirates. However, sneak peek photos and the following preview clips suggest that Milah willingly left her husband and son in pursuit of a new adventure with more fearless men.
In the first clip (on the left), Rumpy finds Milah downing shots in the tavern with Captain Hook and his crew. As he begs her to come home, she berates him for running from the Ogre War and prompts the pirates to laugh at a meek Rumple’s cowardice.
The next scene features Rumple and Hook’s second meeting. Captain Hook officially introduces himself as Killian Jones when he encounters Rumple aboard his ship. Rumpy pleads for Milah’s release and Hook suggests they settle this matter the old-fashioned way.
Does it feel strange to see Rumpy so vulnerable after witnessing all the dark and manipulative deals he has made over the years? Robert Carlyle is such a brilliant actor and brings a beautifully nuanced complexity to this role. Rumple makes you gasp at his vindictiveness, yet you still find yourself wanting to give him a comforting hug. For example, when Belle goes missing in Storybrooke, Rumpy humbly reaches out to others for help.
The third video demonstrates Rumple’s paradoxical persona. Sheriff Charming is trying to help Rumpy find Belle, but given all the people Rumple has scorned over the years, nobody wants to lend a helping hand. In one of Gold’s most vulnerable moments yet, he sincerely reaches out to Charming for advice on matters of the heart. What is the key to a successful relationship? According to Prince Charming, it is “hard work and honesty.”
Maybe if Rumpy starts being honest with Belle, she will reconsider breaking-up with him. In the final sneak peek, Belle passes time at Granny’s Diner, while she mulls over what to do about Rumply’s behavior. She chats with Red about her predicament and Red kindly offers Belle a room at Granny’s while she thinks about ending her relationship with Rumple.
What do you think Oncers? Does this look like the best episode of season 2 so far? Are you even more excited for Sunday after watching these scenes? What else do you hope to see in the episode? Do you think Belle will leave Rumple? Can Rumpy learn to be honest with Belle and make the necessary sacrifices it will take to keep her? What are your first impressions of Colin O’Donoghue as Captain Hook?
