The highly anticipated fourth episode of ‘Once Upon A Time,’ which airs on October 21st at 8 p.m. on ABC, will introduce us to Captain Hook and reveal an acquaintance from Belle’s past. According to SpoilerTV, ABC’s official description for “The Crocodile” says:
Belle’s disgust over Mr. Gold’s continuing thirst for power comes to a head, and she threatens to leave him if he can’t change his evil ways; the dwarves pick up their axes and try to find fairy dust in the Storybrooke mine; and a reunion with an old acquaintance could prove to be Belle’s undoing. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale land that was, Rumplestiltskin attempts to save his wife, Milah, from being kidnapped by a band of cutthroat pirates.
Thanks to these new behind-the-scene photos and episode stills from SpoilerTV, we now have some clues to work with. Take a close look at the slideshow above and see what can be gleaned from the photos.
The images of Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and a golden Rumple verify that their encounter takes place in a fairytale flashback. The green-screen is off-putting, but if you check out the stage-dressings, it appears as though Captain Hook and his men are on a ship or on the docks. Hook also has both of his hands, so hopefully this means we will get to see how and when he loses his left hand.
Rumple takes his signature semi-bow, so we may assume that he appears to Hook. Based on the episode summary, Rumple is probably pleading for his wife’s life and might offer Hook a deal that will spare her. Hook’s crew doesn’t seem to take Rumpy seriously, but we know how convincing he can be. Does Hook make a deal that costs him his hand? Does he come to Storybrooke for revenge? It is a great possibility considering what happens in Storybrooke.
The episode stills show Belle bumping into the aforementioned “old acquaintance” and give us an idea of how this encounter becomes her “undoing.” The photo above reveals that this person is William, played by guest star Chris Gauthier . At first, they seem to be having a friendly little chat, but in the following photo, William appears to be abducting Belle. The only clue we are given about his identity is that he wears a red knit cap, which suggests he may be Smee, Captain Hook’s “left-hand man.” Gauthier is wonderful casting for the role of Smee. He can portray Smee’s sympathetic and likeable side, while exuding enough edge to perform the dark tasks Hook usually asks of Smee. If Hook wants to get back at Rumple for something that happened in their past, it would make complete sense for Hook to have Smee kidnap Belle, knowing how much it would crush Rumpy to see her suffer.
Assuming that Belle is kidnapped by Smee, what are the others going to do about it? The images show Sheriff Charming and Red working with Rumple to find Belle. It looks like we have a chance to see both sides of Red when she channels her inner wolf to help sniff out Belle’s whereabouts. As Emma said last season, Ruby has awesome tracking skills, so it will be nice to watch her use them again.
Also, Belle is shown holding a key in one photo. What does the key open? Is this before the abduction? Is it part of the reason why she gets taken? Start guessing away.
What do you think of the photos? Do you notice any other details in the images that will give us more clues?
