October is Respect Life Month for Catholics with a call for all of the faithful to defend and serve the most vulnerable amongst us, the unborn. October 1 begins the week ahead as well as a month full of activities and events dedicated to spreading the pro-life message throughout Long Island.
This week also continues the open house viewing of Long Island Catholic High Schools for 7th and 8th grade students and their families interested in a faith filled education.
The month of October is dedicated to Respect Life and this year’s theme is “Faith Opens our Eyes to Human LIFE in all its Grandeur and Beauty.” Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, cited Pope Benedict in his Washington address marking Respect Life Month. “If we want peace, let us defend life.”
The Diocesan Office of Respect Life of Rockville Centre is holding a contest for the Catholic youth of Long Island. Using the above theme, children in grades 7-12, enrolled in Catholic School or a parish religious education program, are eligible to participate. Create a poem, photograph, essay, bookmark design, music or video for a chance to win: $400 for First Place, $250 for Second and $150 for Third. Click here for forms or contact the Diocese at 516-678-5800 ext. 626 or 381.
