One Direction’s Niall Horan, 19, is rumored to be dating 20-year-old drama student Amy Green. Sources say that he’s not in love with her and that their relationship is more like “friends with benefits” than “romantic boyfriend/girlfriend.”
Horan was seen with Green backstage at “The X Factor” U.K. (at Fountain Studios in London) on October 21, 2012. A source told the Daily Mirror: “Niall was introducing Amy to people as his girlfriend and they were very happy from the look of things. He was kissing and cuddling her when people weren’t watching and seemed really into her. She was very posh and I have to say they seemed like a great couple. It’s definitely early days but Amy was on his arm as a girlfriend not just a girl friend.”
Horan is not publicly commenting on his relationship with Green. Photos of them together have been showing up on the Internet, although nothing in the photos indicates that they are romantically involved with each other. (For example, they aren’t holding hands, kissing or cuddling.) Horan is the only member of One Direction who has not had a steady girlfriend since the group found fame on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010.One Direction came in third place on the show that year, and the group has since gone on to become the biggest global act to emerge from “The X Factor.”
Even though Horan loves to go on Twitter to talk about what’s going on in his life, sources say that if he is casually dating someone who is not famous, then he won’t tweet about her in order to respect her privacy.
He has said in many interviews that his biggest crush is on Demi Lovato, who became a judge on “The X Factor” U.S. in 2012. Lovato and Horan have admitted to having crushes on each other but they have told the media that they are not dating each other and are “just friends.”
Lovato has been particularly adamant in saying in many interviews that she doesn’t want to have a boyfriend right now because she wants to focus on her career and her recovery from her personal problems such as substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harming. Lovato has spent time in rehab for these issues and has talked about her addictions in several interviews.
The Daily Mirror reported that even though Lovato is publicly saying that she and Horan are “just friends,” she has privately admitted to some people that she and Horan are casually dating, but she and Horan are not in an exclusive relationship and they don’t describe their relationship as “boyfriend and girlfriend.” And since they both have busy careers and live in different countries (Horan lives in London and Lovato lives in the Los Angeles area), then they don’t get a chance to see each other in person very often.
When celebrity news show Xposé (on Irish network TV3) asked for Horan’s response to the Daily Mirror’s report about Lovato saying that she’s casually dating Horan, he replied, “No, I don’t think she actually said it.” In another interview on TV3, he once again said that he and Lovato are “really good friends.”
