According to the article written in “Diabetes 2: Diabetes and Cognitive Dysfunction” suggest the enzyme; Amylase plays an important role in the digestion of carbohydrates, and the breakdown of glucose. The research suggested that salivary amylase is higher in people that aren’t insulin resistant. This finding explains why fast carbohydrates cause a great spike in blood sugar from the moment it enters the mouth. “High Amylase individuals had significantly more AMY1 gene copies within their genomes than did the Low Amylase individuals. We found that following starch ingestion, HA individuals had significantly lower postprandial blood glucose concentrations at 45, 60, and 75 min, as well as significantly lower AUC and peak blood glucose concentrations than the LA individuals” (Garber, 2012).
Written in the book, “Antioxidant Miracle” states Lipoic acid is a super-antioxidant. “It is known to recycle all of the network antioxidants; its critical for sugar breakdown for the
production of ATP, all the while regenerating itself” (Lester Packer, 1999). Lipoic acid also protects the heart, and helps to prevent nerve damage, kidney damage, and blindness caused directly or indirectly by free radicals and the effect of diabetes.
On the website, “Natural hormone DHEA counteracts diabetes” states that hormonal fat contributes to hormone imbalances and causes a variety of health ailments, diabetes being one. “The first imbalance occurs when oxidants overwhelm antioxidants, causing what doctors call oxidative stress. The second imbalance occurs when excess glucose molecules circulating in the blood attach to and scar cell proteins, which doctors call glycation. Both imbalances lead to the complications in advanced diabetes, including nerve damage, blindness and cardiovascular disease. Scientists noted that DHEA had prevented oxidative stress in other studies and wanted to test its effect in diabetes” (Unknown, 2007).
I always believed in looking for the deficiency in a person in order to correct the problem. In this society we are overwhelmed with stress, processed food, and a sedentary life style. From my research Diabetes is a multiple organ disease. The pancreas is affected because it can no longer process insulin properly due to the lack of Amylase. The adrenal glands are exhausted, which causes them to pump out cortisol, creating excessive hormonal fat. This action causes adrenal imbalances and hormonal imbalances in the surrounding organs. The kidneys are effected, causing frequent urination and free radical damage. Leptin is also a missing factor that effects the liver and how the body metabolizes fat. It’s suppose to open up the signals to the metabolism. The lack of signals effects the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the brain.
Once again, I am not recommending a cure for diabetes, however my suggestions may help make this disease more manageable. I would suggest the enzyme – Amylase or papaya enzymes, the Super Antioxidant – Lipoic Acid, and the hormone – DHEA for the adrenal glands, and Leptin for the liver. However, I would suggest you contact your doctor for appropriate testing for hormonal levels, then treat accordingly
