Star Trek: Insurrection pretty much starts like any other episode in the series but takes just a bit of time to bring us up to speed with the crew. From there the plot develops naturally until we find ourselves in the middle of a rebellion against planetary genocide and more action than we usually see in a Star Trek episode. The film could probably have been an episode in the series but did well as a feature length film, giving us time to connect more with the characters and storyline.
Acting was on par with the series and nicely done. Stewart, Frakes, Spiner and the rest of the usual cast did a good job as always and continue to work together well. Abraham, Murphy, and the rest of the experienced supporting cast did nicely, bringing good depth to the film.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were all very well done and nicely detailed. The film had a big budget feel and exhibited quality from every aspect. CGI effects were nicely done and fed much of the sci-fi hunger we had. Physical effects such as costuming were also nicely done throughout. Dialogue was good and moved the story along well. Sound and soundtrack were good.
Overall Star Trek: Insurrection is a bit light on the drama considering the overall storyline but well worth watching for Star Trek fans. Those new to the series, if any exist, will be a bit lost by some of the references and connections.
With some mild action violence, this should be fine for preens and above.
Star Trek: Insurrection is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
