Clive Owen (John), Carice van Houten (Susanna), Daniel Bruhl (Father Antonio), Pilar Lopez de Ayala (Luisa), Ella Purnell (Mia), Izan Corchero (Juan), Kerry Fox (Dr. Rachel), Hector Alterio (Old Priest), Adrian Rawlins (Cop).
Intruders as a horror film is an interesting extrapolation of childhood nightmares, bringing good depth to the concept in a film. The stories are fleshed out well and fairly complete. Though the horror is good, presentation is just as interesting. The film presents two parallel stories that seem to only be related by the appearance of Hollowface. As the stories evolve the similarity is intriguing and draws attention well. Sadly, many will see the suitable ending well ahead of time.
Acting was decent with Owen delivering his usual. Purnell did exceptionally well, bringing good emotion to the screen at every turn. Corchero also did well for his age. Houten, Bruhl, and the remainder of the supporting cast fit well and felt pretty solid.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were fairly simple but nicely done with good detail. Physical effects were good but CGI effects were very well done. The Hollowface creature was presented as supernatural but with restraint exercised as to his abilities the creature felt quite realistic and made an excellent fit. Dialogue was good throughout, as was sound and soundtrack.
Overall Intruders is a decent mid-level horror flick that does a nice job of creating suspense and tension without an excess amount of violence, gore, foul language, or ridiculous CGI. Genre fans who enjoy some depth to their horror will enjoy this the most.
With horror violence, sexuality, nudity, and terror from supernatural beings save this one for older teens and above.
Intruders is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
