It’s another Monday readers, and with it comes another Manic Makeup Monday question from a Makeup Examiner reader. So Happy Monday, my lovelies, and let’s get to this Monday’s question!
Today’s Makeup Monday question comes from Makeup Examiner reader Catherine J. of
Vancouver, British Columbia. Catherine asks: “It seems like my skin changes with the seasons, specifically my legs. I have great looking legs in the [warmer] months and dry, cracked legs in the [colder] months. Why does this happen when my legs are protected? How can I keep my legs looking great during the [colder] months?”
Our skin changes for multiple reasons. Stress, hormones, age, climate and yes, the weather all contribute to changes in tone and texture. As for our legs being protected by clothing during the cooler months, fabric actually works as a moisture thief. Stockings and slacks are constantly against the skin on our legs so not only is the fabric robbing moisture, it’s also irritating it by constantly rubbing against the skin. But there are various ways to keep your legs looking summer sexy throughout autumn and winter.
Summer Sexy Legs For Winter:
Exfoliate. Readers, you know that I emphasize to not over-exfoliate the skin on your face, but you may be neglecting the rest of your body, specifically your legs. You need to remove dead skin cells, which are most likely more prevalent during the cooler months. I recommend that you exfoliate your legs every other time that you bath or shower. A perfect exfoliant for the winter is Gaelle Organic Reborn Exfoliant (2oz $47.00 USD).
Hair Removal. So many of us don’t shave our legs during the winter and this actually contributes to lackluster legs. Keeping a leg care routine throughout the cooler months is important. Gillette Venus offers six different types of razor cartridges: Venus & Olay; Venus Embrace; Venus Original; Venus Divine; Venus Spa Breeze; Venus ProSkin, each fitting the Venus handle (approx. $10.00 USD with cartridge), which gives you an opportunity to find the blade that works best for your skin.
Moisturize. You absolutely need to pay special attention to moisturizing your skin, from head-to-toe, during the cooler months and our legs are no exception. For conditioned, supple and sexy winter legs you need to moisturize them everyday. A winter routine that works well for me is to moisturize my legs with Curel Ultra Healing Lotion (20oz $8.99 USD) after I shower and then at night I use a shea butter balm for a moisturizing treatment while I sleep. A great shea butter product is New Harmony Whole Shea Butter Balm (2 oz $7.99 USD). As always, the Makeup Examiner hopes that readers find Manic Makeup Monday to be helpful.
