On Sept. 13, Disney Parks Blog announced that Be Our Guest Restaurant, scheduled to open in New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park this fall, will serve alcohol at dinner.
The new Walt Disney World restaurant will offer table service at dinner, which is the only time alcoholic beverages will be available. Guests may enjoy beer or wine with their dinner, but may not take beverages into the rest of Magic Kingdom.
The decision marks the first time alcohol will be available in Magic Kingdom during the park’s regular operating hours. The park has been dry since opening in 1971, a policy believed to reflect Walt Disney’s decision to keep Disneyland mostly alcohol-free. (The exclusive Club 33 is an exception.)
Disney Parks Blog emphasized that Be Our Guest Restaurants’s drink menu is part of the restaurant’s storytelling. It reflects the theme of the restaurant and its New Fantasyland location, both of which are inspired by Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” animated movie.
“As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine,” says Stuart McGuire, Beverage Director, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “The wines focus primarily on France’s famous wine-growing regions, including Champagne, Alsace, Loire, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
“We’ll also offer the leading French beer, Kronenbourg 1664,” says McGuire. “And, staying in the general region, we’ll also offer Belgian beers.”
Be Our Guest Restaurant is set in the Beast’s castle. The 500-seat restaurant will offer French cuisine for its quick-service lunches, a type of French bistro experience, as well as for its elegant table-service dinners.
Be Our Guest dining areas include the Ballroom with its 20-foot ceilings, chandeliers and high windows; the Rose Gallery, with a music-box centerpiece; and the mysterious “West Wing” of the castle. The restaurant’s theming extends to the costumes of the Cast Members who will serve the meals.
“From the moment they cross the bridge into the castle, it’s all about immersing our guests in the dining experience,” says Maribeth Bisienere, vice president of Food & Beverage and Merchandise for The Walt Disney Company. “Every detail is part of the story.”
Be Our Guest Restaurant opens on Nov. 19 during the soft-opening stage of New Fantasyland. New Fantasyland officially opens Dec. 6.
