Angel Williams, former owner and sole operator of Nature’s Intent Hand & Foot Spa, has made her way to New York City and is now living her life as a freelance fashion manicurist. Clients were sad to see her go, but also excited for this new and exciting career opportunity.
Check out this interview with the new ‘New Yorker’!
RNB: What prompted the move to NYC?
AW: Well after about 8+ years of salon ownership, I kind of got burnt out of doing nails behind the chair. I made the decision to take my career to the next level with the help of Crystal Wright and the Hair, Makeup & Styling Career Guide. When I was asked to do nails on set for the first time I was nervous, but while executing the job I immediately knew that this was that “next level” and I caught the bug to see my work in print.
New York is where a lot of print magic takes place. I’ve spent the past year and a half going back and forth between Virginia and New York to build my portfolio and I’ve accomplished some great things in a short period of time, Harper’s Bazaar Singapore being my first cover. Along the way I’ve created some great relationships and worked on some great projects so I think moving was just a natural progression to where I want things to go.
RNB: Tell us more about your work in New York City.
AW: I am extremely excited to announce that I am now represented by De Facto Inc. based out of New York as a freelance manicurist.
RNB: You provide some great information on nail care and trends on the All Tressed Up blog. What types of articles can we expect now that you are in the Big Apple?
AW: I think I’m most excited to do a “Day in the life of a Manicurist” piece. I’d really love and opportunity to share with readers a different side of my industry. I will also have more of an insider’s peek at the latest trends; especially since editorial work is so fast forward. And hey, I might even end up creating a trend or two myself!
RNB: How are you settling in?
AW: It is different. What helped was that I was already familiar with navigating the city before the move and I had a place to stay and a job before I got here. Blessings.
RNB: What are three things that you will miss about good ‘ol Richmond, Va.?
AW: (1) Family and Friends (2) Simplicity of getting around (3) Prices on just about everything!
