“X Factor” U.K. girl group Little Mix has announced the dates for the group’s 2013 U.K. tour. And people may have noticed that the tour dates end just a few days after “X Factor” U.K. boy band One Direction begins its own 2013 U.K. tour.
This could be for any number of reasons, but here are the most likely:
- One Direction and Little Mix have similar fan bases (mostly pre-teen and teenage girls), and since both groups are doing concerts in essentially the same areas, to avoid consumer burnout, the Little Mix and One Direction concerts were not scheduled to take place in the same months in the same areas. Many Little Mix fans are One Direction fans and vice versa.
- Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards and One Direction’s Zayn Malik (who are both 19 years old) have been dating each other since the spring of 2012. Assuming that they are still a couple when these tours happen in 2013, they will have time to go on each other’s tours for most of the tour dates. So that means Edwards will be able to keep a watchful eye on Malik when he’s on his 2013 U.K. tour — and vice versa, since Edwards has her share of male groupies.
Little Mix and One Direction (who have each had No. 1 hits in the U.K.) are both signed to Syco Music and are both represented by Modest! Management. One Direction and Little Mix were formed on “The X Factor” U.K. in the same way: Rejected solo contestants were put together the group. Simon Cowell was One Direction’s mentor on the show, while Little Mix was mentored by Tulisa Contostavlos. One Direction came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010. In 2011, Little Mix became the first group to win on “The X Factor” U.K.
Both groups went on “The X Factor” U.K. tours that feature the top “X Factor” acts from the previous year. One Direction did the tour in 2011, while Little Mix headlined the tour in 2012.
Little Mix’s 2013 U.K. tour announcement comes just one day after it was announced that Little Mix’s “Wings” debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart. Little Mix’s debut album (title to be announced) is scheduled for a U.K. release on November 19, 2012. That release date is subject to change.
