Laurel Health week begins this Saturday, October 6, 2012 with the Laurel Charity Health walk, followed by the Doctor’s Community Health forum on October 10, and concluding with the Laurel Charity Golf Tournament, October 12.
The event’s main focus is to raise money for research in preventing kidney disease.
In a recent talk show interview on PWN radio, Dr. Darryl Hill explained the importance of this special health week.
“What we really have here are a bunch of independent doctor’s offices and business owners who really have come together to really give back to our communities, not just through our usual day to day business of helping other people, but to stop, get out into the communities, really talk to people, and remind people and do things that are very, very important,” stated Dr. Darryl Hill, Executive Director of Laurel Medical Associates.
Most of the doctors during the Doctor’s Community Forum will focus on sharing health information with the Washington metropolitan community.
“Kidney disease continues to be a significant health concern in our society,” continued Dr. Hill, one of the event organizers of the week-long fundraiser.
“We are proud to partner with the American Kidney Fund to help in the fight against kidney disease,” he said.
The AKF provides assistance for nearly 90,000 people or almost 1 out of 4 dialysis patients in the United States. In addition, they have provided kidney education and screenings for over 40 years.
“Twenty-six million people have kidney disease and many of them don’t even know it,” shared Dr. Hill.
In addition, information about breast cancer and a varitey of health topics will be discussed throughout the week.
Some of the other featured doctors will include:
• Darryl Hill, MD FACP – Internal Medicine
• Jeffery Dormu – Vascular/General Surgery
• Garland Davis – Dentist
• Ayim Djamson – Cardiology
• Krista Frederic MPT – Physical therapy
• Mitch Barber DPM – Podiatry
• Marvin Lawrence MD – Gastroenterology
