Club Tijuana remains at the top of the league table with 28 points after the conclusion of six of the nine games scheduled for week 13 of the Apertura 2012. Pumas UNAM won their second game in a row, and Tigres UANL suffered their third consecutive loss keeping them in 12th place.
Cruz Azul moved into fourth place after downing Queretaro FC 3-2 at the Azul stadium on Saturday to kick off week 13. Omar Bravo had a double for la maquina cementera and Argentine Mariano Pavone added the winning goal. The game complicated for the azulinos who received goals from Diego Vera and Luis Angel Landin.
Club Leon continued their good form defeating Tigres UANL 2-0 at the Nou Camp to remain in the third rung of the league table. Uruguayan Matias Britos opened scoring in the first minute of play to quickly stun Tigres. His countryman Sebastian Maz converted from the penalty spot in the 36th minute to keep Leon as one of the top clubs this season.
Fourteenth place Atlante FC could not defeat 17th place Reales de San Luis FC at the Alfonso Lastras Ramirez stadium. Luis Mendoza gave Atlante the lead in the 3rd minute, and then Noe Maya added the second in the 61st. However, Atlante could not hold the lead. Jeronimo Amione saved San Luis with a double, first in the 82nd and the final one in the 90th minute.
Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente took home a valuable point from the TSM Corona stadium on Saturday’s final game. Xolos and Club Santos Laguna drew 2-2 in a game that worried the local fans when Tijuana took the lead. American Greg Garza and Colombian Duvier Riascos scored for Xolos, Argentine Daniel Ludueña scored a double saving the local squad. Tijuana remains at the top of the league table.
Sunday’s action began with Pumas UNAM winning their second game in a row. The universitarios defeated CF Pachuca 1-0 at the Olimpico Universitario stadium. The crowd welcomed the return of former coach, former Real Madrid star, former Pumas UNAM player Hugo Sanchez with cheers. Aside from being one of the best players in the team’s history, Sanchez also took Pumas to back-to-back championships in 2004. With the victory Pumas moved into the fifth position on the league table.
The final game of the week had Chivas de Guadalajara facing Jaguares de Chiapas FC at the Omnilife stadium. Chivas took the lead in the first half with a goal from Antonio Gallardo. On a corner kick Gallardo headed the ball past the goalkeeper to give Chivas the lead.
The game looked like John Van’t Schip’s team would claim their third win in a row. However, Colombian Luis Gabriel Rey recovered a loose ball in the area that Luis Michel or the defense could not clear and put it in the net to end the game 1-1. Chivas lost Hector Reynoso to a red card and will miss the team’s next game.
Action continues with week 14 when Jaguares host Puebla FC at the Victor Manuel Reyna stadium and Xolos receive Cruz Azul at Caliente stadium in Tijuana.
