Bieber fever hit the valley this weekend, and hard. The pop sensation kicked off his Believe tour on Saturday September 29, right here in Glendale, AZ. While rehearsing for two days at the Jobing.com arena where the show was to be held, Bieber made appearances to sign autographs and take pictures with his adoring fans multiple times. The excitement grew slightly out of control for those waiting in the crowd the Friday before his concert when a mob of fans broke through a gate and rushed the star for autographs, but this did not stop the performer from making other appearances and meeting with fans.
The show started with Bieber descending from above with metal wings made of instruments. As expected, his arrival was met with piercing screams from at least 17,000 of his screaming fans. The set for this sold out show was 3 levels high complete with a catwalk and built in screens for his transfer videos and special effects.
Perhaps the most touching part of the show was when Bieber paid tribute to Avalanna Routh, known to many as Mrs. Bieber. Six year old Routh passed away just days ago of a rare form of cancer. Touched by this loss, Bieber created a slideshow of pictures from the time that he and Routh spent together and had it run throughout his performance of “One Less Lonely Girl”.
Bieber continued by performing songs from his latest album “Believe” as well as classics from one of his original albums “My World 2.0”. Throwing himself into the performance he kept the crowd pumped all night long. Making his rounds from the top tier of the stage to the end of the catwalk Bieber made sure to involve everyone in the crowd This is something most artists can do effortlessly when they have a fan base as strong as Bieber’s, but this performance took a bit more effort on his part because he was sick. After throwing up on stage, Bieber came back and performed with even more intensity seemingly as an apology to the fans for having to stop the show.
Overall though the kickoff to the “Believe” tour had some hiccups, Bieber definitely delivered an impressive performance. A strong beginning for an international tour. If Saturday’s performance is any indication, fans will not be disappointed.
