Monday, the Associated Press reported that Joran van der Sloot is going to be a father; Van der Sloot is currently in a Peruvian jail for murdering Stephany Flores Ramirez. He is also a suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in 2005. Van de Sloot is currently serving a 28-year sentence and the news of a possible baby has created an Internet buzz Monday.
Van der Sloot’s attorney confirmed that he has had a conjugal visitor, but was not aware if she was actually pregnant.
Saturday, Van der Sloot told the De Telegraaf, a Dutch newspaper in a phone interview that “a test has proved” the pregnancy.
Maximo Altex, Van der Sloot’s attorney reported that the woman’s name is Leidy Figueroa Uceda “is registered as a conjugal visitor of Joran. She is registered in the visitors’ books of the Piedras Gordas prison in Lima.” He stated that he could not confirm the pregnancy.
In 2011, Figueroa was identified as Van der Sloot’s girlfriend and the media reported that the couple had a son together, but Figueroa denied it.
Van der Sloot reportedly said that she uses the birth control pill, but had forgotten to take it. He also said that she is Catholic and will not have an abortion. He also told the De Telegraaf that a paternity test has not confirmed that the baby is his, but he believes it is.
In 2010, Van der Sloot was convicted for robbing and murdering Stephany Flores in Lima, Peru.
Joran was also involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway who disappeared in Aruba in 2005. Holloway, 18, was last seen with van der Sloot. For more on that story, click here.
Joran van der Sloot’s former attorney, Luz Marina Romero Chinchay told HLN that van der Sloot lied about several claims during the time she represented him. Romero said that she was hired by van der Sloot during his confession, after he refused a public defender and said he wanted a private attorney. According to Romero, she asked him if he wanted her and he said yes. She asked him about payment and he said his mother would pay. Now van der Sloot denies that he ever hired her. The psychological report for Joran van der Sloot has been submitted to the court; it stated that he has is frustrated easily and “doesn’t value the female role.” The report also states that van der Sloot “does not tolerate when someone tries to contradict him. It generates in him a challenging attitude.” He is also called “emotionally immature,” and that he has strong changes in his behavior that make him lose control. For more on this story, click here.
