Former Katy Perry boyfriend, and actor on hit shows such as “Sons of Anarchy” and “The OC,” Johnny Lewis was found dead on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the driveway of the Los Feliz home he rented, and is the primary suspect in the murder of his landlord, 81-year-old Catherine Chabot Davis. LAPD indicates that Lewis, 28, either jumped to his death or fell after allegedly killing Davis. According to a September 27, 2012 report from On the Red Carpet, Lewis allegedly beat Davis to death and killed her cat as well. LAPD Commander Andrew Smith stated, however, that an autopsy will determine Davis’ cause of death.
“She was possibly beaten,” although coroner’s officials will determine the exact cause of death, Smith said during a press announcement.
A motive for the murder has not been given, but investigators have not ruled out the possibility the crime was drug fueled. Reports say that neighbors notified authorities after hearing a woman screaming early Wednesday morning. Police arrived at the scene at approximately 10:42 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 and found Lewis’ body in the driveway and the victim inside the home.
Authorities say no one else was at home with the victim during the time of her death. There were no witnesses to Davis’ murder, but authorities described Lewis as an official suspect in the case. LAPD investigators do not believe there were additional suspects and are not looking for anyone else involved with the crime.
It is also unclear how Lewis died. Commander Smith stated, “He could have fallen from any number of places or he could have tripped or fallen, or he could have jumped. We don’t know at this time.”
TMZ provided an update on the case and reported that sources told them they saw Lewis fighting with several men before ultimately plunging to his death. TMZ reports, “After allegedly killing the 81-year-old woman, Johnny had fought with two men for 3 to 4 minutes … hurting at least one of them We’re told Johnny initially used a 2×4 to attack the men … and then used his bare hands.
“Law enforcement sources say the men he fought with say Johnny showed “super-human strength” and was “phenomenally strong.”
TMZ stated that law enforcement sources suspect Lewis was on drugs such as PCP or meth-amphetamines. Both drugs have been linked to cases of supernatural strength in humans and bath salts have recently been linked to a string of bizarre, cannibal type attacks.
According to reports by KTLA, Davis regularly rented rooms to Hollywood actors and other members of the entertainment industry. They stated it was unclear if Lewis previously rented a room from the victim, moved and then returned, but it is believed he was a current tenant of Davis’ at the time of the murder. Elaborating on the report given by TMZ regarding an altercation with the men, KTLA states that authorities believe Lewis beat Davis to death, then ran outside, was involved in a physical altercation with one of Davis’ neighbors and his handyman, and then went to the roof where he either fell or jumped.
It may take several weeks before toxicology reports reveal if and what type of drugs were in Lewis’ system at the time of his death.

Sutter’s remarks are as follows, “September 27, 2012 not sure if folks know this yet, but johnny lewis (halfsack) died last night. the sad irony of it happening two days after opie’s death is not lost on me. it was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. i wish i could say that i was shocked by the events last night, but i was not. i am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path. yes, it’s day or mourning, but it’s also a day of awareness and gratitude. sadly, some of us carry the message by dying.”
