New York City came alive with the laughter of children and the cutting-edge fashions of the pint-sized world on October 20 and 21, 2012 at Industria Superstudio for a fashion procession of petitePARADE.
It was an extravaganza of fun and fantasy as fashions hit the runway from international and domestic designers brought to us from near and far. Debuting their latest Spring/Summer 2013 collections were Baby CZ, Bonnie Young, Miss Blumarine, Halabaloo, Lilly Pulitzer, Joe’s Jeans Kids, Caramel Baby and Child, Inca Girls Swimwear, Lamantine Paris, Mischka Aoki, Ooh! La La! Couture and T-Shirt T-Shops.
It all took place in collaboration and partnership with VOGUE Bambini and as Giuliana Parabiago, Editor-In-Chief put it, “petitePARADE is the first fashion event dedicated to the children’s design world. It is a surprisingly fun way for editors, moms, bloggers, buyers and children to come together for a weekend and discover new trends, play with fashion and choose a wardrobe.” Also involved and covering the show backstage, on the runway and on the street was leading fashion content provider, Stylesight, who is the number one expert in providing content for the style, fashion and design industries.
This year brought with it an electrifying change in the way the fashions were presented. A dazzling SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS showcase of rainbow and crystal was added to the parade with the launch of its multi-brand fashion show featuring customized and commercial designs with Swarovski crystals. In addition, Parsons the New School For Design, curated a fashion show featuring their top children’s wear design graduates.
Some of the fashion highlights included ruffles and lace in dainty dresses, suits for both girls and boys, stripes and polka dots alone and in pairs, full ballerina skirts and plenty of fresh florals, rainbows of colors shot through the collections and light outerwear to keep warm in the still chilly temps. The fabrics speak a multitude of languages through self-expression. Beaming and bright smiles and enthusiastic attitudes were priceless extras on the runway and a huge selling feature for each of the designer lines. The international influence couldn’t have been more evident than in the fashions of Parsons School of Design with layers of originality brimming forth on the runway.
There was no better way to end the weekend than with sweets and treats and the beats of eight-year-old DJ Kai Song at the petiteBALL. Petite guests enjoyed the Swarovski Sparkling Craft Workshop in support of Only Make Believe, a non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theater for children in hospitals and care facilities. There were a multitude of designers that took part in this portion of the event to give forth to those in need.
The generous sponsors that made it all possible included Ace Hotel, Glaceau (Smart Water and Vitamin Water), Glop & Glam, Stride Rite Children’s Group, The Little West Group, Bitsy’s Brainfood, Crispy Green Snacks, Motherhoodwonders, Funky Monkey Snacks, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, milkPOP, Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit Co., Pirate’s Booty, Doodle Doos Children’s Salon, Rumba Time, Baked By Melissa, American Apparel & Workshops in support of Only Make Believe and The New York Foundling.
What a wonderful way to spend a weekend. Children are what make the world go round and it is always special to know that there is a Fashion Week that is made for the whole family to enjoy.
