A Daily Word from the Word for Thursday, September 27, 2012
“Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’” – John 5:5-6
Today’s message serves as the conclusion of our three-part series on this topic. Please reference the entire account of the man healed at the pool of Bethesda found in John 5:1-9. Click here to read part one or part two.
I need to revisit our discussion of “hugies” (hoog-ee-ace) in reference to Jesus making the man “well,” as I missed some God-given revelation pertaining to this. As stated yesterday, “hugies”, as used in verse 11, means “true in doctrine, enlarge, increase” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance).
The Lord wants to enlarge our territory; and when He brings about spiritual healing, deliverance, and restoration, He indeed beings this forth. We find this powerful promise delivered in the prayer of Jabez found in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.’” 1 Corinthians 3:6 also testifies that it is God who gives the increase.
When Jesus commanded this seeking soul to “rise”, He was saying in the Greek “egeiro” (eg-i-ro) which means “collecting one’s faculties, to waken; to literally rouse from sleeping, sitting, lying, disease, or death; to figuratively rouse from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, or death” (Strong’s). Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines “rouse” as “to cause to break from cover.”
The Greek word for “walk” in verse 8 (Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”) is “peripateo” (per-ee-pat-eh-o) which is “to tread all around, walk at large” (Strong’s). It is the same word and meaning in Matthew 14:22-33, when Jesus said to Peter “Come,” and Peter rose out of the boat and walked on the water.
Precious child of the Most High King, when the Lamb of God— the Son of God and the Son of Man, steps in to your life and speaks “rise” to your spirit, every thing that kept you bound suddenly falls off of you. His authority causes you to break out from the cover of those things that kept you covered up in bondage; and brings you to walk in the new territory of His Marvelous Light.
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you” (Luke 10:19). Tread, beloved, tread. Tread on sickness, disease, lack, obscurity, low self-confidence, obesity, addiction, worthlessness, confusion, poverty, bad relationships, and everything else that is holding you back. “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36). Be free this day, sons and daughters; for today is your day to be first to dip in the pool of Bethesda.
Father, thank you that we have been made free from the wages and effects of sin and death through your Son, Jesus Christ. Father, we no longer are powerless and no longer remain under infirmity of any kind, because you have caused us to break our cover and walk in the overflow of your blessings and provision! In Jesus Name, thank you that we have been made well because we walk in the Blood of the One who took captivity captive. Amen and Amen!
Take Action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to start treading and trampling on every thing that is not of God and is holding you back from receiving the Father’s best. Choose to walk in the new authority that Jesus has imparted into you. And continue to fight the good fight of stirring up the water with the Word; for God, your Final Say, has already given you the victory!
God tells us that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). Be a blessing to someone by sending them this word of encouragement. If God did not already put someone in your spirit and on your heart who needs to read this uplifting message from above, simply ask your Heavenly Father who to bless on today. Forward this message right now by email, facebook, or twitter.
May God Bless you and keep you always.
With warmest regards,
And, in service of The Most High King,
