Some critical losses this week for Notre Dame opponents as well as some big wins. Let’s take a look at this week’s opponent review.
Navy inched one step closer to bowl-eligibility with a big 56-28 win over East Carolina. The Midshipmen ran for 512 yards of offense led by Gee Gee Greene’s 131 yards. Keenan Reynolds rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns and also threw for two more scores to lead Navy to their fifth win.
Danny Hope’s run at Purdue may be ending fast after the Boilermakers 44-28 loss at Minnesota. Purdue scored first before giving up 44 straight points. Robert Marve threw for two touchdowns and Rob Henry and Caleb TerBush each threw for a score as well.
Michigan State earned their biggest win of the season with a 16-13 overtime victory over Wisconsin. Andrew Maxwell threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winner in overtime to Bennie Fowler to lead the Spartans.
Michigan suffered their first Big 10 loss of the season 23-9 to Nebraska. Three Brendan Gibbons field goals is all the Wolverines could muster. Denard Robinson threw for 55 yards and rushed for 46 yards before leaving the game with an elbow injury.
Stanford only gained 256 yards of total offense, but had enough to beat Washington State 24-17. Jamal Rashad-Patterson caught a 70-yard touchdown pass and Ed Reynolds returned an interception 25 yards for a score to lead the Cardinal to their sixth win.
BYU shook off their loss to the Irish by going to Georgia Tech and beating the Yellow Jackets 41-17. The Cougar defense held Georgia Tech to a paltry 157 yards of total offense. Jamal Williams ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns and also caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown to lead BYU.
Pittsburgh earned their first conference win of the season and evened their record at 4-4 with a big 47-17 victory over Temple. Ray Graham ran for 109 yards and two touchdown and also caught four balls for 71 yards and a score to lead the Panthers. Devin Street made six receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown as well.
Boston College got their first ACC win of the season by beating Maryland 20-17. Chase Rettig threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns and Alex Amidon caught nine passes for 137 yards to help the Eagles to just their second win of the season.
Wake Forest slipped to 4-4 on the year after a 42-13 beating at the hands of Clemson. Clemson outgained Wake 534-290. Tommy Bohanon caught three passes for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Demon Deacons.
Matt Barkley threw for 493 yards and three touchdowns and Marqise Lee caught 16 passes for a Pac-12 record 345 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as USC lost to Arizona 39-36. The Trojans led 28-13 in the third quarter before the Wildcats scored 26 straight points to take the lead. Five turnovers doomed USC.

For the week, Notre Dame opponents went 6-5 including Oklahoma’s 30-13 loss to the Irish. For the year, Irish opponents now sit 54-43.
