“God is not a Democrat. God is not a Republican. God did not come to take sides, He came to take over,” pastor and author Dr. Tony Evans said. In his book, How Should Christians Vote, Dr. Tony Evans addresses this question.
It’s the duty and responsibility of every American to vote. It’s the duty of every American Christian to vote for leaders who promote Christian principles.
When Dr. Tony Evans was interviewed on Moody Radio Chicago he told listeners, “As Christians, we represent another King and another kingdom, so the summary of the book is that you should vote for that policy, platform, or person. The solutions to our problems won’t land on Air Force One; they’re going to come because a strong church is dominant in the culture.”
“When God is excluded, the government is in control. This election can divide the church. Instead of asking the question who should we vote for,” Dr. Evans said, “it is how should we vote?”
“Look at the issues as it relates to what God says about those key issues. Look at what democrats or what republicans say, then tally it up.”
Dr. Evans reminds readers that people won’t prioritize issues the same. One must weigh the candidates. Which one best reflects the kingdom of God. The Bible says to pray for all those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Vote for that candidate and policy which best advances the kingdom of God.
“My fellow believers, it is time to return to the Book. It is time to look to the one source that holds the answers for how our country should operate, the Bible. And to do so, I want to start with the foundational principle upon which all else should rest concerning how a Christian should vote.” Dr. Tony Evans said, “This principle is located in the book of Romans where we read, “Every person is to be subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”’
“God is the ultimate one in charge. He alone sits in the government over His creation. All other governments are then to reflect His ultimate rule. It is as straightforward, and as complex as that.”
For those sitting on the fence this coming election, where should Christians start?
Look to Romans 13, where God rules. Voting is an opportunity to promote, protect, and preserve godly government.
From Genesis to Revelations, the entire Bible is filled with politics. Pastor Evans states, “With the end of history ending politically with the antichrist pulling the world governments together and Jesus Christ being named king of kings, lord of lords, so the whole Bible is politics, but its politics as it relates to the kingdom of God, not politics as an entity of itself.”
To pastors, Dr. Evans says the book contains biblical materials to preach through this issue. This should be brought to the table; vote biblically.
“Determine which party, candidate and platform will most allow us to advance the kingdom of God. You make a kingdom decision in the voting booth,” Dr. Evans states. “That doesn’t mean everyone will vote the same, but what it does mean when they come out of the voting booth they’re going to be pushing the same kingdom.”
This book does not tell the reader who they should vote for rather it provides biblical materials so people can understand the kingdom of God as it relates to government.
