Any time I hear of a newly opened burger bar I must have a look… and a taste. As it was relayed to me, this place was very busy and I needed to get there early to avoid standing in a line to get in. A line? for a burger joint? Yes. Having seen the lines as I rode past I made a mental note to arrive early for lunch on my visit.
My Hopdoddy lunch visit was midweek and I arrived just as the doors opened for service. I was quickly greeted and shown the way to the starting point. As with many places in Austin ordering is not just walk to the counter, drop an order and go. Guests are directed to pick up a menu for review while the line brings them closer to the point of order. While in line, a server will assign you to a table. Place your order and have a seat, your food will be brought to you.
Upon review of the menu I found several interesting choices and after quite a bit of waffling back and forth, chose the Llano Poblano Burger . The Llano Poblano is crafted with Angus beef, Pepper Jack cheese, roasted Poblano chili’s, apple-smoked bacon and Chipotle mayo on a fresh made bun with a side of Kennebec fries. Fantastic burger. Now I understand the lines. In addition to the great taste of the food, Hopdoddy’s supports the local agricultural economy and seeks the only the most select ingredients.
Another offering from Hopdoddy’s is craft beer from local artisan brewers, but that is another review altogether. Enjoy!
