Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, the TLC reality show that is centered around six year old Alana and her crazy, backwoods family, has done great with ratings and even beat out the Republican National Convention ratings.
The show that many call; “a train wreck that you can not take your eyes off of” is the spin-off show of Toddlers and Tiaras where we first met Alana.
There was controversy with them there as well when Alana would ask for her drink and her mother would give her, “go-go juice” in a sippy cup to give her energy for the pageants.
Go-Go juice was red bull and mountain dew.
Now the family is being criticized again and Mountain Dew plays a part of it.
Alana’s sister, 17 year old Anna, recently had a baby girl, Kaitlyn this past July and their 12 year old sister, Lauryn, was caught dipping the infant’s pacifier into a can of Mountain Dew and then giving it to the baby to suck on.
The drink is a very high caffeinated rink that is filled with sugar and can be dangerous for children, let alone babies.
RadarOnline reported that the pictures that were taken at a local pageant in Georgia, showed the sister giving the baby the dipped pacifier.
The baby who was born with four fingers and two thumbs on her right hand was also on the news recently as well when it was reported that the grandmother, June, had mocked the baby because of the deformity.
June has denied it though and said they love the baby regardless of her fingers.
“We have embraced [the abnormality]. It makes Kaitlyn more special to us.” June said, claiming that the reports were not true at all.
The baby was born on July 26 to 17 year old Anna, the father is not named on the show and is not in the picture.
June had Anna when she was 15, and understands how hard it is to raise a child when you are a child yourself, so June is helping her daughter take care of the baby girl so Anna can finish her school year, she is a senior.
Anna said her mom helps her a lot, but also wants her to learn on her own with some things;
“Sometimes my mama gives me pointers, Sometimes I just learn on my own.”
The rest of the family helps with the baby as well. Alana, who just turned 7 loves the baby and loves being an auntie.
Child services were said to have been sent to the house because of how the parents were raising Alana and the other kids, giving them caffeinated drinks and feeding them roadkill.
Authorities said that they had a case to bring to court but the families court appointed attorney got the judge to throw the case out.
June says that she gave the girls coke when they were little and at least it is not alcohol.
The show has it’s fair share of lovers and haters. Many watch for the sheer shock and amusement, but some embrace the family and enjoy watching what they call, a typical, redneck, loving family.”
The family is not a shy family and have no shame in anything they say or do, from passing gas frequently and making fun of each other, to weighing themselves on public television.
They make fun of each other and argue and fight, the kids seem to be in charge of things more then the parents do, especially the father, but for them, it works and I guess that is all that matters.
Love them or hate them, they do not care, as long as they are having fun.
As Alana says, ‘You better redneckognize”, it seems like they are here to stay.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo airs on TLC Wednesday nights.
