The enormity of Sandy seen from space is scary, but the real enormity will be seen in individual lives damaged or lost. When nature unleashes it’s fury, people suffer, and when people suffer, Christians go to work. At least that is how it is supposed to be. Government agencies try to ‘fit the bill’, but they can never replace the local churches.
These church ‘communities’ in themselves are very important in times of trouble. Not only do they serve those in the cities and towns they live in, but who is better qualified to make sure their members are safe and sound?
With seven billion on the planet and nearly 500 million in the U.S. alone, there is no way that a few government agencies can call or check up on each person to see that they made it to safety. This is where the church comes in.
When the people of God commit to doing what is their reasonable service, the whole world benefits from it. As faithful as many church members are to serving their brothers and sisters, things can be forgotten in the rush of the crisis. Sometimes there is not much anyone can do until after the storm passes, but God’s people need to get ready to show the love of Christ to the most vulnerable and devastated.
For many it may seem like the end, but with God all things are possible.(Ephesians 4:13) Those who know the power of God have a responsibility to share this message in these upcoming hours and days as people try to get their lives back in order.
Getting God to lend and ear is what most non-believers think of when they reach out to the church after a catastrophe. Prayer, the bad word of the politically correct movement, suddenly becomes the word of the day as millions will say, ‘pray for us’. The world needs God especially in times of trouble. So, the next time ‘kicking God out’ of our nation is the word of the day, stand up and give a reminder that the world needs Christians. Your voice can be heard on ‘Super Tuesday’ as you get out and vote. This nation needs to remain a Christian nation. Keep this in mind as you vote.
