The brand new “Beatles Scrabble”, just out in time for the holidays and the latest addition to USAopoly’s Beatles line, is a cute twist on the traditional game that adds interesting Beatles touches.
Players get extra points for using Beatles-related words. Depending on what players agree to before the game starts, these can include words from song and album titles and even descriptive words like “fab” and “gear.”
The “Help!” cards, though, add even more Beatles content. These use a Beatles song title, including songs from “The Beatles Anthology,” to bring on some very inventive directives to the game.
Some examples: “’Ticket to Ride’: Start with all new tiles and don’t skip a turn,” “’Hello, Goodbye’: Start and end a word with the same letter and double your score,” “’If You’ve Got Trouble’: Flip any tile in your rack over to make it a blank,” “’Get Back’: Play a word backwards” and “‘Across the Universe’: Play a Beatles related word anywhere on the game board independent of the grid.”
And to further get you in the mood, the game features a tile bag with an image of the Beatles.
“Beatles Scrabble,” like “Beatles Monopoly,” adds the Fab Four to the traditional game. But while all of the game play elements in “Beatles Monopoly” were adapted from the original game, “Beatles Scrabble” contains a few additions like the “Help!” cards and the Beatles word bonuses.
If you aren’t a “Scrabble” purist and can handle an updated game, you should find “Beatles Scrabble” a nice addition to an evening with friends that includes Beatles music as well as your game collection.
